Objectives
THE TRAINING OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS: PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE: I) ON THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTION OF THE MAIN BIOMOLECULES; II) ON THE MAIN PATHWAYS OF ENERGY METABOLISM AND ITS REGULATION, AND TO PROVIDE THE TOOLS FOR UNDERSTANDING THE GENERAL STRATEGIES THAT DRIVE THE VITAL PROCESSES.

AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL KNOW: I) THE MECHANISMS OF REGULATION OF THE MAIN ENZYMATIC REACTIONS IN RELATION TO CELLULAR METABOLISM, II) THE PROCESSES OF PRODUCTION AND USE OF ENERGY, AND III) THE STRATEGIES AND BIOLOGICAL PURPOSES THAT MAKE INTERDEPENDENT STAGES OF METABOLISM.

THE STUDENT APPLYING THE ACQUIRED SKILLS, WILL BE ABLE TO OUTLINE THE OVERALL PICTURE OF THE METABOLISM AT THE MOLECULAR AND CELLULAR LEVEL, AND APPLY IT TO THE STUDY OF RELATIONS BETWEEN DIFFERENT METABOLIC PATHWAYS.

AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL HAVE ACQUIRED CRITICAL SKILLS THAT ALLOW HIM TO CONTEXTUALIZE THE BIOCHEMICAL KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED IN THE EXPERIMENTAL LABORATORY PRACTICE.

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO SHARE, THROUGH COMMUNICATION, THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, THUS DEMONSTRATING FULL UNDERSTANDING AND MASTERY.

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO ACQUIRE A LEARNING METHOD THAT ALLOWS HIM TO PROCEED IN AN AUTONOMOUS AND CRITICAL WAY DURING HIS EDUCATION TRAINING.

Teaching Methods
TEACHING METHODS
THE TEACHING OF GENERAL BIOCHEMISTRY INCLUDES 9 CREDITS (72 HOURS) AND WILL TAKE PLACE THROUGH LECTURES, INTERACTIVE TEACHING, AND SEMINAR ACTIVITIES.
AS PER THE TEACHING REGULATIONS, ATTENDANCE AT THE GENERAL BIOCHEMISTRY COURSE MUST BE CONSIDERED COMPULSORY, THE PROCEDURES FOR VERIFYING ATTENDANCE WILL BE COMMUNICATED TO THE STUDENTS BY THE TEACHER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE.
Verification of learning
VERIFICATION OF LEARNING
ONGOING SELF-EVALUATION TESTS DURING THE COURSE USING BOTH MULTIPLE CHOICE AND OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS, LASTING 45 MINUTES, AIMED AT EVALUATING UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE TOPICS COVERED. THE FINAL TEST INCLUDES AN IN-DEPTH ORAL INTERVIEW LASTING A MINIMUM OF 30 MINUTES, AIMED AT EVALUATING THE STUDENT'S ABILITIES IN COORDINATING AND CONTEXTUALIZING THE INFORMATION ACQUIRED, AS WELL AS VERIFYING THEIR ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND AND PRESENT IT USING APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY. THE FINAL GRADE, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS, FROM 18/30 TO 30/30 CUM LAUDE, CONSIDERS THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED RELATING TO THE STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MAIN CLASSES OF BIOMOLECULES, AND KNOWLEDGE REGARDING CELLULAR METABOLISM AND ITS REGULATION. FOR THE PURPOSES OF AWARDING HONORS, THE USE OF APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE AND THE INDEPENDENCE OF JUDGMENT DEMONSTRATED WILL BE CONSIDERED.
