March1990:                                 graduation in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the University of Naples “Federico II”, academic degree: summa cum laude.

 

November 1990-July1994:          PhD Student, Department of Chemistry of Natural Products, University of Naples “Federico II.   

 

July 1994-March1996:                 Assistant at the Chair of Phytochemistry, University  of Salerno

 

March 1996-March1998:             Postdoctoral position at the University of Salerno.

 

June –July 1997:                         Visiting Scientist at the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation IUNG, Pulawy, Poland

 

October 1999:                             Specialization in Clinical Pharmacy.

Profession

 

July 1999-December 2004:         Assistant Professor at the Chair of Phytochemistry, University of

                                                    Salerno.

 

Since July 2005:                          Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Biology, University of Salerno.

 

Major research activities

Investigation of medicinal and food plants focused to the isolation, structural elucidation of secondary metabolites and evaluation of their biological activities; development of analytical strategies for the quali-quantitative determination of secondary metabolites in plant extract and herbal products.

She has been the coordinator of the Italy-Egypt bilateral project “Chemical-biological study of medicinal plants growing in south-eastern desert of Egypt” granted by the Italian Ministery of Foreign Affairs.

She is author of about 190 research articles in international peer reviewed journals.

Prof. Piacente serves as referee for many international journals in the field of Phytochemistry, Pharmacognosy, Chemistry of Natural Products and Food Chemistry. In 2010 Prof. S. Piacente received APIVITA award from the Phytochemical Society of Europe for her contribution in the study
