Objectives
THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE PHYSICAL BASIS TO EFFECTIVELY ADDRESS THE ISSUES OF THE DEGREE COURSE. IN PARTICULAR, THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS THAT THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE DURING THE COURSE ARE:

KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN ISSUES OF PHYSICS OF INTEREST TO THE DEGREE COURSE. IN PARTICULAR, HE WILL ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN MODELS OF PHYSICS, IN CONNECTION WITH THE ASSUMPTIONS ON WHICH THESE MODELS ARE BASED, CRITICALLY UNDERSTANDING ALSO LIMITS OF VALIDITY AND APPLICABILITY IN REAL CONTEXTS (KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING).

ABILITY TO SUCCESSFULLY APPLY THE MODELS OF PHYSICS TO QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE DESCRIPTION OF REAL CASES ALSO, AND ESPECIALLY, IN INTERDISCIPLINARY CONTEXTS OF INTEREST TO THE DEGREE COURSE, BY TESTING HYPOTHESES AND CONDITIONS ON WHICH THESE MODELS ARE BASED. THE STUDENT WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO EVALUATE THE QUALITY OF THE EXPECTED RESULTS BOTH IN RELATION TO THE INTRINSIC APPROXIMATIONS OF THE PHYSICAL MODEL ADOPTED AND IN RELATION TO THE MEASUREMENT ERRORS (APPLIED KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING).

ABILITY TO INTEGRATE THE NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE AND MANAGE THE COMPLEXITY OF THE INFORMATION IN THE ACQUISITION AND APPLICATION OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF PHYSICS, TO FORMULATE JUDGMENTS AND ASSUMPTIONS OF WORK, ALSO ON THE BASIS OF INCOMPLETE OR LIMITED INFORMATION, AND ON THE EFFECTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES RELATED TO THE PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF THE KNOWLEDGE (INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT).

ABILITY TO PRESENT TOPICS COVERED IN THE COURSE OF PHYSICS WITH PROPERTIES AND SIMPLICITY OF LANGUAGE, AIMED ALSO TO A CLEAR AND EFFECTIVE TRANSMISSION OF CONTENTS AND RESULTS IN INTERDISCIPLINARY CONTEXTS, IN PRESENCE OF INTERLOCUTORS WHO ARE NOT EXPERTS IN THE FIELD (COMMUNICATION).

ABILITY TO EXPAND AND DEEPEN THE THEMES OF PHYSICS AND ITS INTERDISCIPLINARY APPLICATIONS IN AN AUTONOMOUS WAY (LEARNING SKILLS).
Prerequisites
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ACQUIRED THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF ALGEBRA, GEOMETRY AND TRIGONOMETRY PROVIDED FROM NORMAL HIGH SCHOOL CURRICULA.
FOR THE STUDENT IN DENTISTRY: ACCORDING TO SECTION 11 OF THE PUBLISHED DIDACTIC GUIDELINES

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE (6 CFU) INCLUDES LECTURES AND NUMERICAL EXERCISES.

ATTENDANCE TO LECTURES AND NUMERICAL EXERCISES IS MANDATORY. TO GIVE THE FINAL EXAM THE STUDENT MUST HAVE AT LEAST 75% OF THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF THE HOURS. THE MODE OF CHECKING THE ATTENDANCE IS MADE KNOWN BY THE PROFESSOR AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LESSONS.
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN EXAMINATION WITH AN ASSESSMENT IN THIRTIETHS. THE EXAM CONSISTS OF WRITTEN TEST AND OF AN ORAL TEST.

THE WRITTEN EXAM IS PRELIMINARY TO THE ORAL EXAMINATION AND CONSISTS OF A TEST WITH MULTIPLE CHOICE EXERCISES ON TOPICS OF THE TEACHING PROGRAM. THE TEST TAKES PLACE BEFORE THE ORAL EXAMINATION AND IS CONSIDERED POSITIVE WITH THE ACHIEVEMENT OF PREDETERMINED MINIMUM SCORE. THE WRITTEN TEST LAST AT LEAST ONE HOUR AND IS DESIGNED TO TEST THE ABILITY TO CORRECTLY APPLY THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE AND THE ABILITY TO COMPLY WITH THE PROPOSED PROBLEMS.

THE ORAL TEST CONSISTS IN A DISCUSSION WITH QUESTIONS ON THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENTS INDICATED IN THE TEACHING PROGRAM AND IS FINALIZED TO ASSESS THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY OF COMPREHENSION REACHED BY THE STUDENT, TO CHECK THE ABILITY TO EXPRESS CONCEPTS, USING THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY AND ABILITY OF AUTONOMOUS ORGANIZATION OF PRESENTATION OF THE SAME TOPICS OF THEORETICAL CONTENT.
