Objectives
THE PHYSICAL-STATISTICS SCIENCE COURSE TAKES PLACE IN THE FIRST HALF OF THE FIRST YEAR. IT IS ARTICULATED IN 4 EDUCATIONAL MODULES: GENERAL PHYSICS WITH 3 CFU, MEDICAL STATISTICS WITH 2 CFU, ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC MEASUREMENTS WITH 2 CFU AND INFORMATION PROCESSING SYSTEMS WITH 2 CFU, FOR A TOTAL OF 108 HOURS OF LESSON. THE COURSE AIMS TO SUPPORT THE ACQUISITION OF THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE REGARDING THE BASIC ELEMENTS OF GENERAL PHYSICS, MEDICAL STATISTICS, ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC MEASUREMENTS AND INFORMATION PROCESSING SYSTEMS. IN PARTICULAR, IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC ELEMENTS, THE ASPECTS RELATED TO IMAGE DIAGNOSTICS WILL BE ANALYZED.

Prerequisites
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ACQUIRED THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE IN THE FIELDS OF PHYSICS AND MATHEMATICS PROVIDED BY THE HIGH SCHOOL STUDY PROGRAMS.

Medical Statistics
Descriptive Statistics: Definition of statistics. Stages of a statistical survey. Statistical units. Characters. Mode. Arrangement of data: tables. Absolute, relative, percentage and cumulative frequency. Statistical distributions. Graphic representations. The Gauss curve. The summary indicators: means, median, mode, deviance, variance, standard deviation, percentiles, box-plot.
Statistical Probability: Probability Calculation. Definition of probability. Simple or compound event. Dependent, independent, compatible, incompatible events. Probability theorems. Probability distribution. The normal or Gaussian distribution. Standardization of probability and use of tables: the meaning of the Zeta.
Statistical Inference: The logical path of inference. Sampling. Distribution of the sample mean. The standard error. The central limit theorem. The level of significance and the confidence interval.
Hypothesis Testing: Meaning of "hypothesis testing". Statistical hypothesis: region of acceptance and region of rejection of the null hypothesis. The alpha error and the beta error. The concept of statistical power. The level of significance and the p-value. The Zeta test. One and two-tailed tests.
Statistical Correlation And Regression: Association between two variables. Statistical correlation. Statistical regression. Scatter Plot. Covariance. Correlation coefficient (Rho). Regression analysis. Regression line.
Notions of epidemiology and clinical studies: concept of causality. Prevalence. Incidence. Experimental studies. Observational studies.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INCLUDES LECTURES FOR 108 HOURS. ATTENDANCE TO CLASSROOM LESSONS AND LABORATORY ACTIVITIES IS MANDATORY. IN ORDER TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 75% OF THE SCHEDULED TEACHING HOURS. THE METHOD OF CHECKING THE PRESENCE IS COMMUNICATED BY THE TEACHER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LESSONS.
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING AN EXAM WITH EVALUATION IN THIRTIES. THE TEST AS A WHOLE ALLOWS TO ASSESS THE ABILITY OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING, THE ABILITY TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED SKILLS, THE ABILITY TO EXPOSURE, THE ABILITY TO LEARN AND TO DEVELOP SOLUTIONS IN AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT. THE TEACHERS HOLDING THE COORDINATED MODULES PARTICIPATE IN THE OVERALL COLLEGIAL ASSESSMENT OF THE STUDENT'S PROFIT.
