Objectives
THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF GENERAL LINGUISTICS COURSE IS TO TEACH STUDENTS THE FUNDAMENTALS OF LANGUAGE, WHAT A LANGUAGE IS, HOW IT IS STRUCTURED AND WHAT ARE THE POINTS OF CONTACT AND DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DIFFERENT LANGUAGES. IT AIMS TO STIMULATE AND DEVELOP STUDENTS' LINGUISTIC AWARENESS. FOR THIS REASON, THE STUDENTS WILL HAVE TO CARRY OUT NUMEROUS EXERCISES NECESSARY TO MASTER THE TECHNICAL RUDIMENTS FOR THE ANALYSIS AND DESCRIPTION OF THE LANGUAGE AT DIFFERENT LEVELS: PHONETIC, PHONOLOGICAL, MORPHOLOGICAL, SYNTACTIC, SEMANTIC.
AS FAR AS KNOWLEDGE AND COMPREHENSION ARE CONCERNED, THE AIM OF TEACHING IS TO DEVELOP STUDENTS' LINGUISTIC AWARENESS BY OFFERING DIDACTIC COURSES ON CONCEPTS, MODELS, METHODS AND RESULTS OF MODERN REFLECTION ON LANGUAGE.
WITH REGARD TO THE APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING, STUDENTS SHOULD BE ABLE TO COMPARE DATA FROM DIFFERENT LANGUAGES, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE FOREIGN LANGUAGES STUDIED, CAPTURING THE COMMON ELEMENTS AND THOSE THAT DIFFERENTIATE THEM.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CORRESPONDS TO 9 CREDITS, WHICH ARE EQUAL TO 225 HOURS OF STUDY WORK, INCLUDING 54 HOURS OF LECTURE-BASED CLASSES. REGULAR ASSIGNEMENTS WILL BE GIVEN TO THE STUDENTS DURING THE COURSE.
TWO EXTRA HOURS A WEEK WILL BE DEDICATED TO THE EXCERCISES' CORRECTION.
Verification of learning
THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST DIVIDED INTO FIVE SECTIONS: 1. SOCIOLINGUISTICS AND SEMIOTICS; 2. PHONETICS AND PHONOLOGY; 3. MORPHOLOGY; 4. SYNTAX; 5. SEMANTICS AND PRAGMATICS.

EACH SECTION CONTAINS EXERCISES OR OPEN-ANSWER QUESTIONS, CLOSED-ANSWER QUESTIONS OR MULTIPLE-ANSWER QUESTIONS. THE MAXIMUM SCORE IS GIVEN FOR EACH EXERCISE OR QUESTION.

THE FINAL MARK WILL BE CALCULATED BY ADDING TOGETHER THE MARKS OBTAINED IN EACH SECTION.
THE MAXIMUM SUM OF POINTS FOR EACH EXERCISE OR QUESTION IS ADDED TO 30/30 TO FACILITATE STUDENTS OR TO ACHIEVE A PASS MARK OF 30.

THE MINIMUM MARK TO PASS THE EXAM IS 18/30 THE MAXIMUM IS 30/30 CUM LAUDE.
