Objectives
THE COURSE INTRODUCES STUDENTS TO THE MAIN ORGANIZATIONAL THEORIES, REVISED IN THE LIGHT OF THE CURRENT ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL CONTEXT IN WHICH FIRMS WORK; STUDENTS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH THE ESSENTIAL GROUNDING FOR THINKING THROUGH AND GRASPING ORGANIZATIONAL PHENOMENON TOGETHER WITH THE TOOLS WITH WHICH TO MANAGE THE KEY ISSUES OF ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE. STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY ORGANIZATIONAL KNOWLEDGE TO THE FIRMS IN THE MANUFACTURING, COMMERCIAL AND SERVICES INDUSTRIES AND TO NOT FOR PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. THE STUDENTS WILL ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO MAKE INDEPENDENT, KNOWLEDGEABLE JUDGMENTS REGARDING ORGANIZATIONAL ISSUES, ALSO THROUGH THE ATTENDANCE TO PROBLEM BASED LEARNING ACTIVITIES. TO THIS AIM, BUSINESS TESTIMONIES AND CASE STUDIES ARE AN IMPORTANT TOOLS FOR DEVELOPING CRITICAL ANALYSIS SKILLS. THE COURSE AIMS AT IMPROVING THE STUDENTS’ COMMUNICATIVE ABILITY, DEVELOPING PUBLIC SPEAKING SKILLS WITH AN EMPHASIS ON REINFORCING INDIVIDUAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS. MOREOVER THE STUDENTS WILL BE ENCOURAGED, WORKING INDIVIDUALLY OR IN GROUPS, TO EXPLOIT THE POTENTIAL WHICH SEVERAL COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES OFFER TO BUSINESS ORGANIZATIONS. BY MEANS OF THE THEORETICAL BACKGROUND ACQUIRED DURING THE COURSE, STUDENTS WILL BE IN A POSITION TO ANALYZE CRITICALLY ORGANIZATIONAL PHENOMENON AND TO SELECT THE MOST APPROPRIATE INTERPRETATIVE KEYS FOR UNDERSTANDING SUCH ISSUES AND FOR HANDLING COMPLEX CASES OF ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE.

THE COURSE DEALS WITH THE MAIN ISSUES OF ORGANIZATIONAL THEORY, ORGANIZATIONAL DESIGN AND CHANGE MANAGEMENT. THE FIRST MODULE FOCUSES ON ORGANIZATIONAL DYNAMICS, CONSIDERING THE MANY ISSUES DEBATED AND THEIR RELATIONS WITH THE ENVIRONMENT, THE SHAPING OF ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE AND KNOWLEDGE, THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT.
THE SECOND MODULE ILLUSTRATES A RANGE OF ORGANIZATIONAL FRAMEWORKS AND OPERATIONAL DEVICES MOST FREQUENTLY USED BY PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECTOR ORGANIZATIONS; THE CORE OF THIS MODULE FOCUSES ON INVESTIGATION OF THE ORGANIZATIONAL FORMS DEVISED BY PROF. HENRY MINTZBERG: DEBATE ON FUTURE IMPLICATIONS OF ORGANIZATIONAL PLANNING CONCLUDES THE LAST PART OF THE COURSE.
