YEAR OF DIDACTIC SYSTEM 2016
SPRING SEMESTER
CFUHOURSACTIVITY
648LESSONS
Objectives
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO TEACH TO THE STUDENTS HOW TO DESIGN A TOTAL SYNTHESIS OF A COMPLEX ORGANIC COMPOUNDS, IN PARTICULAR USING RETROSYNTHETIC ANALYSIS, PROTECTION OF FUNCTIONAL GROUPS, SOLID PHASE SYNTHESIS, THE CONTROL OF DIASTEROSELECTIVITY AND THE USE OF PALLADIUM IN ORGANIC SYNTHESIS. AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO DESIGN AN EFFICIENT MULTI-STEP SYNTHESIS OF AN ORGANIC COMPOUND.
Prerequisites
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ACQUIRED THE KNOWLEDGE OF ORGANIC CHEMISTRY FROM THE COURSES OFORGANIC CHEMISTRY I AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY II
Contents
THE ROLE OF ORGANIC SYNTHESIS IN ACADEMIC AND INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH. (2 HOURS)
1)CHEMOSELECTIVITY: SELECTIVE REAGENTS IN ORGANIC SYNTHESIS.(3 HOURS)
2)PROTECTION OF FUNCTIONAL GROUPS: ALCOHOLS, CARBOXILIC ACIDS AND AMINES.(4 HOURS)
3)SOLID PHASE SYNTHESIS OF PEPTIDES: SOLID SUPPORTS, PROTECTION STRATEGIES OF FUNCTIONAL GROUPS, COUPLING REAGENTS.(4 HOURS)
4) RETROSYNTHETIC ANALYSIS: PRINCIPLES AND STRATEGY FOR MONO AND POLIFUNCTIONAL ORGANIC COMPOUNDS.(13 HOURS)
5) CONTROLLING THE DIASTEREOSELECTIVITY IN ORGANIC REACTIONS: GEOMETRY OF DOUBLE BONDS. STEREOSELECTIVE REACTIONS OF CYCLIC AND ACYCLIC COMPOUNDS.(14 HOURS)
6) PALLADIUM IN ORGANIC SYNTHESIS: HECK, STILLE AND SUZUKI REACTIONS.(5 HOURS)
Teaching Methods
THE LESSON CONSISTS OF 48 HOURS OF LECTURES (6 CFU), WHICH ARE HELD IN THE CLASSROOM WITH THE AID OF PROJECTIONS.
AT THE BEGINNING OF THE COURSE A FOLDER WILL BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS, CONTAINING ALL THE DOCUMENTATION THAT IS PROJECTED DURING LESSONS.
IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED THE ATTENDANCE AT LESSONS.
Verification of learning
LEARNING OF EXAM'S CONTENTS AND ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING A WRITTEN EXAMINATION.
THE WRITTEN TEST LASTS TWO HOURS.
THE WRITTEN EXAM INCLUDES THREE QUESTIONS:
THE FIRST TWO ARE GENERAL OPEN QUESTIONS, COVERING THE TOPICS STUDIED DURING THE COURSE.
THE THIRD QUESTION REQUIRES RETROSINTHETIC ANALYSIS AND SYNTHESIS, DETAILED IN DESCRIBING REAGENTS AND REACTION CONDITIONS, OF TWO POLYFUNCTIONALIZED ORGANIC MOLECULES.THE PROPOSED STRUCTURES ARE SIMILAR TO THOSE ANALYZED DURING CLASS HOURS. THE MAXIMUM SCORE FOR EVERY QUESTION IS 10/30. THE HONORS WILL BE AWARDED TO THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE ANSWERED FULLY, WITH EXCELLENT KNOWLEDGE OF SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE AND ORIGINALITY TO THE THREE QUESTIONS.
