Objectives
THE COURSE INTRODUCES THE STUDENTS TO THE STRUCTURE OF MATTER IN TERMS OF THE ELECTRONIC
STRUCTURE OF ATOMS AND MOLECULES. A LARGE FOCUS WILL BE ON THE NATURE OF THE CHEMICAL BOND AND ITS INFLUENCE ON THE MACROSCOPIC PROPERTIES OF MATTER. THE THERMODYNAMIC AND KINETIC PRINCIPLES REGULATING THE CHEMICAL PROCESSES WILL BE ILLUSTRATED AND DISCUSSED. THE COURSE GIVES THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY TO UNDERSTAND THE MAIN CHEMICAL PHENOMENA. MOREOVER, IT WILL GIVE INFORMATION ABOUT THE QUANTITATIVE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN SUBSTANCES UNDERGOING CHEMICAL REACTION.

THE EXAM CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST COMPRISING THE SOLUTION OF STOICHIOMETRY PROBLEMS, MULTIPLE-CHOICE TEST AND OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS. THE EXAMINATION IS SUPPLEMENTED BY AN ORAL EXAMINATION.
