Objectives
THE COURSE IS AIMED AT LEARNING METHODS FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE LINEAR CIRCUITS, BOTH IN DC AND IN AC, SINGLE PHASE AND THREE PHASES, SIMPLE FIRST AND OF THE SECOND ORDER CIRCUITS IN TRANSIENT CONDITIONS. BASIC ELEMENTS CONCERNING THE TRANSFORMER, THE INDUCTION MOTORS AND THE DC MOTORS ARE ALSO GIVEN.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT KNOWS: METHODS FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE LINEAR CIRCUITS, IN DC AND AC, SINGLE PHASE AND THREE PHASE ONES. TRANSIENTS IN FIRST AND SECOND ORDER SIMPLE LINEAR CIRCUITS. OPERATING PRINCIPLE AND LINEAR MODEL OF THE TRANSFORMER. OPERATING PRINCIPLES, MECHANICAL AND ELECTRO-MECHANICAL CURVES OF THE INDUCTION MOTOR AND OF THE DC MOTOR.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT IS ABLE TO: ANALYZE DC AND AC LINEAR CIRCUITS, ALSO INCLUDING AN IDEAL TRANSFORMER, AS WELL AS SIMPLE LINEAR CIRCUITS IN TRANSIENT CONDITIONS, AND TO ANALYZE THE MECHANICAL AND ELECTRO-MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTIC OF ASYNCHRONOUS AND DC MOTORS.

MAKING JUDGMENTS
TO BE ABLE TO SELECT AND USE THE PROPER METHOD FOR ANALYZING A LINEAR CIRCUIT AND TO UNDERSTAND THE MEANING OF THE MAIN NOMINAL ELECTRIC DATA OF ELECTRICAL MOTORS.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
TO BE ABLE TO SHOW, IN WRITTEN FORM, THE PROCEDURE TO ANALYZE A LINEAR CIRCUIT. TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS ABOUT ONE OF THE TOPICS TREATED IN THE COURSE.

LEARNING SKILLS
TO BE ABLE TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO CONTEXTS THAT ARE DIFFERENT FROM THOSE ONES PRESENTED IN THE COURSE AND TO BE ABLE TO STUDY IN DEPTH THE TOPICS TREATED IN THE COURSE BY USING TEXTBOOKS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE ONES PROPOSED BY THE TEACHER.
Prerequisites
THE FOLLOWING KNOWLEDGE IS REQUESTED: SOLUTION OF SYSTEMS OF LINEAR EQUATIONS AND OF FIRST ORDER DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS, PROPERTIES OF THE TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS AND OPERATIONS ON COMPLEX NUMBERS. IT IS ALSO REQUESTED THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE BASIC ELECTROMAGNETIC THEORY.

Teaching Methods
THE COURSE IS DIVIDED INTO LECTURES AND CLASSROOM PRACTICES. IN THE LATTER ONES, THE PROFESSOR SHOWS THE PROCEDURE FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE CIRCUIT. AFTERWARDS, THE STUDENTS TAKE PART IN THE SOLUTION OF THE CIRCUIT PROBLEM, UP TO ACHIEVE A SATISFACTORY DEGREE OF AUTONOMY IN THE RESOLUTION OF THE EXERCISES. BY USING THE PLATFORM MOODLE, DURING THE COURSE THE STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO SOLVE SOME TESTS TO THE AIM OF GIVING TO THE PROFESSOR A FEEDBACK ABOUT THE LEARNING STATUS.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM INCLUDES A WRITTEN PART AND AN OPTIONAL ORAL PART. THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION IS AT LEAST 2 HOURS AND HALF LONG AND INCLUDES THREE EXERCISES; THESE LATTERS HAVE TO BE SOLVED BY THE STUDENT BY ANSWERING AT LEAST TO THE FIRST QUESTION OF EACH EXERCISE. THE EVALUATION OF THE EXAM IS POSITIVE IF THE RESULT OF THE WRITTEN PART IS AT LEAST EQUAL TO 18/30. THE ACCESS TO THE ORAL PART IS ALLOWED IF THE WRITTEN PART IS EVALUATED WITH 26/30 AT LEAST.

THE WRITTEN EXAM IS AIMED AT EVALUATING THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE STUDENT ON SINUSOIDAL CIRCUITS, BOTH SINGLE AND THREE PHASE, ALSO INCLUDING IDEAL TRANSFORMERS, AND ON SIMPLE FIRST AND SECOND ORDER DYNAMIC CIRCUITS.

THE MINIMUM MARK (18) IS ACHIEVED BY SOLVING IN THE CORRECT WAY THE WRITTEN EXAM UP TO THE ANSWER TO THE FIRST QUESTION OF EACH OF THE THREE EXERCISES. THE EVALUATION IS ALSO BASED ON THE COMPLETENESS AND CLARITY OF THE EXPLANATIONS AND SOLUTIONS.

THE MAXIMUM MARK (30) IS GIVEN TO THE STUDENT WHO IS ABLE TO DEMONSTRATE, IN THE WRITTEN EXAM OR BY ALSO ACCESSING TO THE ORAL EXAM, THE ABILITY OF APPLYING THE STUDIED METHODS TO DIFFERENT CONTEXTS.

THE LAUDE IS GIVEN TO THE STUDENT WHO HAS ALSO AFFORDED THE ORAL EXAM, BY SHOWING A FULL UNDERSTANDING OF THE THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL ASPECTS DISCUSSED IN THE COURSE, BY SHOWING A FULL ABILITY OF DISCUSSING ABOUT THE TOPICS TREATED IN THE COURSE AND BY APPLYING THE METHODS IN CONTEXTS THAT ARE BEYOND THOSE ONES SHOWN BY THE TEACHER DURING THE COURSE.
