GENERAL OBJECTIVE
THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE ARE SET WITHIN THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE DEGREE PROGRAM THAT SHALL INCLUDE THE TRAINING OF A PROFESSIONAL EXPERT IN THE FIELD OF MONITORING, ASSESSMENT, MANAGEMENT OF NATURAL AND ANTHROPOGENIC RISKS AND LAND MANAGEMENT.

THE GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE TRAINING OF AN ENVIRONMENTAL OPERATOR WHO IS AN EXPERT IN THE VARIOUS ASPECTS OF WATER PROTECTION, FROM LEGAL TO TECHNICAL OF WASTEWATER TREATMENTS PLANTS.
IN DETAIL, THE PARTICULAR OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE KNOWLEDGE, AND THE ABILITY TO APPLY THEM, REGARDING THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF WATER PROTECTION, FOR WHAT CONCERNS THE ITALIAN REGULATORY ASPECTS AS WELL AS THE THEORY AND OPERATING PRINCIPLES OF URBAN WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESSES.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR NO 1)
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO ALLOW THE STUDENT TO GET THE KNOWLEDGE, WITH THE SUPPORT OF TECHNICAL VISITS OF WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANTS, OF THE BASIC CONCEPTS OF WATER PROTECTION AND WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESSES FOR WHAT CONCERNS:
-THE ITALIAN REGULATORY FRAMEWORK (NATIONAL AND REGIONAL)
-THE THEORETICAL AND TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF THE COMMON PROCESSES USED IN THE URBAN WASTEWATER TREATMENT CYCLE.
IT IS ALSO THE OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE TO GIVE THE STUDENT THE TOOLS TO DEVELOP AND/OR APPLY INNOVATIVE IDEAS, POSSIBLY ALSO IN RESEARCH FIELDS, FOR THE DESIGN AND SIZING OF A CORRECT URBAN WASTEWATER TREATMENT CYCLE, RESPECTING THE REGULATORY ASPECTS. FINALLY, THE TEACHING AIMS TO PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE USEFUL KNOWLEDGE TO UNDERSTAND AND ADDRESS INNOVATIVE TOPICS IN THE FIELD OF:
-WASTE WATER MANAGEMENT (BLACK WATER AND RAINWATER)
-MOST WIDELY USED PLANT SOLUTIONS FOR URBAN WASTE WATER TREATMENT
-TREATMENT AND MANAGEMENT OF PLANT SLUDGES.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR N.2)
THE COURSE AIMS TO ENABLE THE STUDENT TO CONCEIVE AND SUPPORT ARGUMENTS THAT ADDRESS THE ISSUES RELATED TO A CORRECT DESIGN (OR EVALUATION) OF A COMPLETE CYCLE OF URBAN WASTEWATER TREATMENT ADHERING TO THE ITALIAN REGULATORY FRAMEWORK AND CURRENT AVAILABLE PLANT TECHNOLOGY.
THE KNOWLEDGE LEARNED WILL ALLOW THE STUDENT TO SOLVE PROBLEMS, IN NEW (UNFAMILIAR) AND INTERDISCIPLINARY AREAS, RELATED TO WASTE WATER TREATMENT, BOTH FROM THE REGULATORY POINT OF VIEW AND IN TERMS OF TECHNICAL ASPECTS.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR N.3)
THE COURSE AIMS TO ENABLE THE STUDENT TO COLLECT AND INTERPRET RELEVANT DATA RELATED TO THE ISSUES FOR A CORRECT DESIGN (OR EVALUATION) OF THE MANAGEMENT OF URBAN WASTEWATER TREATMENT THAT IS FULLY COMPLIANT WITH THE REGULATIONS AND COMPATIBLE WITH CURRENT AVAILABLE PLANT TECHNOLOGY. IN DETAIL, THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO INDEPENDENTLY INTEGRATE THEIR KNOWLEDGE IN ORDER TO BETTER MANAGE THE COMPLEXITY OF THE PROBLEMS RELATED TO THE VARIOUS WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESSES, MAKING JUDGMENTS, EVEN WITH PARTIAL DATA, BASED ON THE QUANTITATIVE AND QUALITATIVE CHARACTERISTICS OF WASTEWATER, THE REGULATORY FRAMEWORK AND TYPICAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESSES.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR N.4)
THE COURSE WILL ENABLE THE STUDENT TO COMMUNICATE TO SPECIALIST AND NON-SPECIALIST INTERLOCUTORS, CONCEPTS AND CONCLUSIONS, AS WELL AS THE UNDERLYING RATIONALE, RESULTING FROM THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED BY THE STUDENT, REGARDING WATER PROTECTION, BOTH IN TERMS OF REGULATORY ASPECTS AND IN TERMS OF THE THEORETICAL AND TECHNICAL ASPECTS OF URBAN WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS AND PROCESSES.

LEARNING SKILLS (DUBLIN DESCRIPTOR N.5)
THE COURSE WILL PROVIDE THE STUDENT WITH THE NECESSARY SKILLS FOR A SELF-MANAGED AND AUTONOMOUS STUDY, THAT ALLOWS HIM TO FIND INDIVIDUAL PATHS TO ADDRESS THE COMPLEX AND MULTIDISCIPLINARY PROBLEMS OF URBAN WASTEWATER MANAGEMENT AND TREATMENT THAT IS FULLY COMPLIANT WITH THE REGULATIONS AND COMPATIBLE WITH CURRENT AVAILABLE PLANT TECHNOLOGIES.
