This course is aimed at obtaining knowledge and understanding of the molecular basis of the living organisms, of the structures and processes of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, and of the reproduction of living organisms. It is also aimed at providing specific knowledge of the expression and transmission of genetic information and of the elements of plant- classification, histology and anatomy. The course will also provide knowledge on the sites of biosynthesis and accumulation of bioactive molecules in plants. The student, on the basis of the acquired skills, will be able to address and solve problems related to cell and molecular biology and also to recognize the microscopic and macroscopic features of plant structures. |
Prerequisites | |

THE COURSE OF BIOLOGY INCLUDES: LECTURES WITH THE SUPPORT OF MODERN TEACHING SUPPORTS SUCH AS PROJECTIONS BY MEANS OF MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATIONS WITH DEDICATED EDUCATIONAL FILMS;THE ATTENDANCE TO THE LECTURES OF THE GENERAL BIOLOGY COURSE IS MANDATORY. THE TEACHER WILL COMMUNICATE THE MODE OF ATTENDANCE CONTROL ON THE FIRST LECTURE OF THE COURSE. STUDENTS WHO FAIL TO SATISFY THE ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT, WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND A SERIAL OF INFORMAL TUTORIALS ACCORDING TO THE TEACHER'S INSTRUCTION. |
Verification of learning | |

THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN AND AN ORAL TEST, TO BE SUSTAINED IN THE SAME EXAM SESSION. THE RATING IS X/30. TO PASS THE WRITTEN TEST WITH A SCORE OF 18/30 IS MANDATORY TO ACCESS TO THE ORAL TEST, AND REACH THE FINAL GRADE. THE WRITTEN TEST IS MANDATORY TO ACCESS TO THE ORAL TEST AND CONSISTS FOR ANIMAL BIOLOGY OF THE ADMINISTRATION OF A QUESTIONNAIRE WITH BLOCKED MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS (30 QUESTIONS AND HAS A DURATION NOT EXCEEDING 40 MINUTES); FOR PLANT BIOLOGY OF OPEN-ENDED QUESTIONS (HAS A DURATION NOT EXCEEDING 40 MINUTES). THE QUESTIONS WILL BE DEALT WITH IN THE COURSE PROGRAM AND ARE AIMED AT VERIFYING THE ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE PROPOSED PROBLEMS AND THE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE THEM IN WRITING . THE STUDENT WILL BE ASKED TO DISCUSS THE MAIN TOPICS OF THE COURSE, TRYING TO DEMONSTRATE CRITICAL THOUGHT AND AWARENESS OF THE STRUCTURE OF THE FIELD OF STUDY. DURING THE COURSE, THE STUDENT ALSO HAS THE POSSIBILITY TO CARRY OUT PARTIAL TESTS, THE DATES OF PERFORMANCE OF THE ABOVE PARTIAL TESTS ARE ESTABLISHED ANNUALLY AND AGREED WITH THE ATTENDING STUDENTS, AND COMMUNICATED TO THE STUDENTS WELL IN ADVANCE OF THE DATE OF PERFORMANCE.THE PASSING OF THE PARTIAL TESTS MAY EXEMPT FROM THE PERFORMANCE OF THE WRITTEN TEST. THE EXEMPTION APPLIES EXCLUSIVELY TO THE EXAMINATION SESSION IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE TEACHING SESSION. |
