EXAMPLES OF APPLICATION OF LCA TO DIFFERENT INDUSTRIAL PROCESSES (3 H THEORY, 2 H EXERCISE)
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CONSISTS IN FRONT LESSONS (43 H) AND CLASSROOM EXERCISES (17 H) FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT OF 60 HOURS WHICH ARE WORTH 6 CREDITS. THE LECTURES ARE MADE WITH MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATION GIVEN TO THE STUDENTS BEFORE EACH SINGLE LESSON. DURING THE LESSON, STUDENTS ARE INVOLVED AND STIMULATED WITH QUESTIONS, EXAMPLES AND ANECDOTES AIMED AT FACILITATING DISCUSSION AND ACTIVE PARTICIPATION. THE EXERCISES ARE MADE USING LAPTOPS; THEY ARE PERFORMED INDIVIDUALLY OR IN GROUPS OF TWO OR THREE STUDENTS.
ATTENDANCE AT THE LECTURES IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
Verification of learning
THE ASSESSMENT OF THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE FIXED GOALS IS OBTAINED THROUGH THE PRESENTATION OF AN ESSAY AND A SUBSEQUENT ORAL EXAMINATION.
THE STUDENT HAVE TO PREPARE A WRITTEN ESSAY CONCERNING THE APPLICATION OF THE LIFE CYCLE ASSESSMENT (LCA) TO A PARTICULAR INDUSTRIAL SECTOR IN THE FORM OF A REVIEW OF 3-5 SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES. THE CHOICE OF THE TOPIC IS DISCUSSED WITH THE PROFESSOR. THE STUDENT HAS TO SEND THE ESSAY BEFORE THE FINAL EXAMINATION AND ITS PRELIMINARY EVALUATION ALLOWS TO THE PROFESSOR TO EXPRESS A FIRS JUDGMENT OF THE PERFORMED WORK. DURING THE ORAL EXAMINATION, THE STUDENT HAVE MAKE A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION OF 20 MINUTES WITHOUT ANY INTERRUPTION FROM THE PROFESSOR.
DURING THE PRESENTATION OF THE STUDENT, THE PROFESSOR ADD OTHER INFORMATION TO THE PREVIOUS JUDGMENT FORMULATED ON THE BASIS OF THE WRITTEN ESSAY. CONTEMPORARILY, THE PROFESSOR ELABORATE SOME IN-DEPTH QUESTIONS CONCERNING THE PRESENTATION.
IN ORDER TO OVERCOME THE MINIMUM LEVEL, THE STUDENT SHOULD NOT SHOW SERIOUS SHORTCOMINGS ON THE BASIC SUBJECTS OF THE COURSE. THIS ASSESSMENT IS PRELIMINARY DONE DURING THE PRESENTATION AND AFTER IT IS VERIFIED IN-DEPTH WITH SPECIFIC QUESTIONS AT THE END OF THE PRESENTATION.
THE MAIN EVALUATION CRITERIA ARE THE FOLLOWINGS: 1) CAPACITY TO ELABORATE DATA CONTAINED IN THE EXAMINED ARTICLES (INDEED, THE ESSAY SHOULD NOT SIMPLY DESCRIBE THE PAPERS); 2) CAPACITY TO ANSWER TO THE IN-DEPTH SPECIFIC QUESTIONS; 3) PRESENTATION SKILLS.
THE STUDENT OBTAINS AN EXCELLENT EVALUATION IF HE/SHE HAS PRESENTED AN EXCELLENT REVIEW, WELL ORGANIZED, WITH A PERFECT FORMAL CONTROL OF THE BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES IN THE BODY TEXT AS WELL AS WITH A SIGNIFICANT ELABORATION OF DATA CONTAINED IN THE CONSIDERED ARTICLES. THE STUDENT HAS ALSO TO PRESENT THE ESSAY IN A VERY CLEAR WAY, SHOWING PERFECT MASTERY OF THE BASICS. FINALLY, HE/SHE HAS TO ANSWER CORRECTLY TO ALL IN DEPTH QUESTIONS.
