Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE HISTORICAL AND CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE NECESSARY TO ANALYZE PROBLEMS AND PERSPECTIVES RELATED TO THE CONTEMPORARY MUSEUM AND EXHIBITIONARY COMPLEX, HIGHLIGHTING THE RECENT TRANSFORMATION DUE TO DIFFERENT THEORETICAL APPROACHES IN THE INTERNATIONAL DEBATE.
IN THIS COURSE STUDENT WILL DISCUSS ABOUT DIFFERENT AND RELEVANT MUSEOLOGICAL REALITIES, WHERE TRANSVERSAL APPROACHES ARE GIVEN BY SEVERAL PROFESSIONAL FIGURES INVOLVED IN CONTEMPORARY MUSEUM OPERATION. THE STUDENT WILL REACH THE ABILITY TO WORK IN THE DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES RELATED TO PROMOTION, DEVELOPMENT, HERITAGE, DIDACTIC, PRIVATE AND PUBLIC EXHIBITION’S SPACES.
THE COURSE AIMS TO ENCOURAGE STUDENT TO DEVELOP APPROPRIATE ASSESSMENT TOOLS CONNECTED WITH SOCIAL AND ETHICAL RESPONSIBILITIES RELATED TO MUSEUM ACTIVITIES AND, IN WIDER TERMS, TO THE DIFFERENT EXPRESSION OF EXHIBITION SYSTEM.
THANKS TO SEMINARS, THE COURSE AIMS TO DEVELOP EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS IN STUDENT IMPROVING HIS OWN LINGUISTIC COMPETENCY.
STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE TOOLS AND ABILITY FOR BECOMING AUTONOMOUS AS LEARNER IN MUSEOLOGICAL FIELD.

THE BIRTH OF THE CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM AND ITS FOLLOWING DEVELOPMENT DURING THE 1900S IS THE SUBJECT OF THE COURSE. STARTING TO THE HISTORICAL AND CRITICAL SURVEY RECENTLY MADE BY PEDRO LORENTE IT WILL BE UNDERLINED HOW THE CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM’S GROWING DEVELOPMENT AND ITS DISSEMINATION HAVE ORIENTED THE ART FROM THE XX AND XXI CENTURY. THE HISTORY OF CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM BEGAN IN EUROPE AND STATES, BUT NOW IT HAVE BEEN REACHING A GLOBAL DIMENSION. IN THIS CONDITION THE EXHIBITION COMPLEX IS THE KEY ISSUE OF THE ARTWORK’S CONSTITUTION.
DURING THE COURSE IT WILL BE DEVOTED TO ANALYSE THE CONTRIBUTION TO THE MUSEOLOGY GIVEN FROM ALFRED BARR JR, THE DIRECTOR OF THE MOMA, AND ALEXANDER DORNER WHO WAS WORKING AT GERMAN AND AMERICAN MUSEUMS AS A PIONEER OF THE NEW DISPLAY SOLUTIONS.
Teaching Methods
FRONTAL LESSONS, VISIT TO EXHIBITIONS AND MUSEUMS, SEMINARS. THE STUDENT WILL BE INVOLVED IN RESEARCH GROUPS ON SINGULAR TOPICS.
Verification of learning
ORAL EXAMINATION CRITERIA: THE EVALUATION WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE DEEPENED KNOWLEDGE OF THE BOOKS INDICATED BELOW, AS WELL AS THE ABILITY FOR AUTONOMOUS THOUGHT AND CRITICAL MATURITY IN EXPOUNDING ARGUMENTS.
