Tonino CARUSO Curriculum

Dr. Tonino Caruso graduated in Chemistry cum laude in October 1998, at the Faculty of Science of the University of Salerno, defending a thesis entitled “Design and characterization of an ion oxalate electrode”. During this MSc thesis period, a reversible electrode toward the activity of oxalate ion has been designed; oxalate ion represents an organic natural-like ligand, which is stable to the oxidizing conditions existing in subsoil waters and able to transport heavy metal cations to the biosphere.
During the period April-December 1999, he has been appointed for a scientific collaboration at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Naples “Federico II”, where he worked on the speciation of uranium in its differents oxidation levels.
In 2001 he gained the primary school teaching licence of Natural Sciences, and he consequently was holder of the course of Natural Sciences in several primary schools.
During period 2002-2003 he has been appointed to lecture a course of Analytical Chemistry at the Faculty of Science of the University of Molise.
In March 2003 he obtained the Doctoral Degree (3 years PhD) in Chemistry at the University of Salerno, defending a thesis entitled “Synthesis of aplyolids, bioactive compounds from Aplysia depilans“ which represented mainly a study on the synthesis of aplyolids, bioactive macrocyclic lactones extracted from the marine organism Aplysia depilans.
During the period March-October 2003 he gained a research fellowship at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Salerno, working on the study of the occuring interactions among carbohydrates and metallic ions by means of electrochemical and spectrometric techniques. The main focus of this research was the chance to apply electrolysis in organic solvents in order to take advantage of carbohydrates and for the electrochemical synthesis of their analogues.
In October 2003 he has been holder of the course of Analytical Chemistry for Labor Consulting s.r.l., in the national project P.O.N. for high development.
Since July 2004 he is an assistant professor of Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Salerno; he is currently a lecturer of Analytical Chemistry.
He has been appointed to lecture a course of Analytical and Environmental Chemistry since 2005 for the graduation course in “Evaluation and Environmental Control” at the University of Salerno.
In the academic years 2005/2006 and 2006/2007, he has been holder of the course of Laboratory of Applied Analytical Chemistry in the 1st and 2nd Edition of Master in “Evaluation and Environmental Control: The rubbish recycling”.
In the academic year 2006/2007 he has been also holder of the course of “Ecology and environmental issues” for SICSI, the school to teaching specialization.
Since 2008 he has been also appointed to lecture a course of Analytical Chemistry for the graduation course in “Biological Sciences” at the same university.
Dr Tonino Caruso is author of lot of papers published in the international journals and conferences proceedings too.
