GENERAL OBJECTIVE THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE CONCEPTUAL AND METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS NECESSARY TO CONDUCT AN IN-DEPTH SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE LABOUR MARKET AND GENDER POLICIES IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND AND ADDRESS GENDER INEQUALITIES IN THE CONTEXT OF SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROCESSES. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS WILL ACQUIRE: - SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE RELATED TO THE THEORETICAL AND CONCEPTUAL FOUNDATIONS OF GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN THE EMPLOYMENT CONTEXT. - ABILITY TO ASSESS THE IMPACT OF GENDER DISCRIMINATION ON CAREER OPPORTUNITIES, WORK PARTICIPATION, WAGES AND CAREER ADVANCEMENT OPPORTUNITIES. - KNOWLEDGE OF NATIONAL AND SUPRANATIONAL POLICIES TO COMBAT GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN EMPLOYMENT AND RELATED STRATEGIES. IN ADDITION, STUDENTS WILL UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN GENDER EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION AND: -OCCUPATIONAL SEGREGATION, TO EXAMINE THE ROLE OF GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN THE CONCENTRATION OF MEN AND WOMEN IN SPECIFIC EMPLOYMENT SECTORS. - PUBLIC POLICIES FOR GENDER EQUALITY, TO UNDERSTAND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN EMPLOYMENT AND GOVERNMENT POLICIES TO PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: - IDENTIFY AND ANALYSE CASE STUDIES CONCERNING GENDER EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION IN SPECIFIC CONTEXTS IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE DYNAMICS AND CHALLENGES RELATED TO THIS PHENOMENON IN PRACTICE. - CRITICALLY ANALYSE OFFICIAL REPORTS AND DOCUMENTS CONCERNING GENDER EQUALITY IN THE LABOUR MARKET IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND TRENDS, CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES RELATED TO THE PROMOTION OF GENDER EQUALITY IN EMPLOYMENT. AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: -CRITICALLY EVALUATE INFORMATION FROM DIFFERENT SOURCES AND MAKE DECISIONS BASED ON THESE EVALUATIONS. - DISCERN BETWEEN OPINIONS, FACTS AND ARGUMENTS, DEVELOPING CRITICAL AND ANALYTICAL THINKING. - SELECT AND EFFECTIVELY USE APPROPRIATE THEORETICAL TOOLS AND DATA FOR THE ANALYSIS OF CASE STUDIES. COMMUNICATION SKILLS STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO: - COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY, BOTH VERBALLY AND IN WRITING, CONCEPTS ON GENDER EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION, USING TECHNICAL AND PRECISE LANGUAGE. - REPRESENT THE RESULTS OF THEIR OWN RESEARCH OR WORK IN WRITTEN TEXTS OR DIGITAL TOOLS, DEMONSTRATING SKILLS IN SYNTHESIS AND EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION. |

THE COURSE WILL COVER THE FOLLOWING TOPICS 1. THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS OF GENDER DISCRIMINATION: FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS AND THEORIES FOR UNDERSTANDING GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN THE EMPLOYMENT CONTEXT AND BEYOND. 2. NATIONAL AND SUPRANATIONAL GENDER EQUALITY POLICIES: ANALYSIS OF POLICIES AND STRATEGIES TO COMBAT GENDER DISCRIMINATION AND PROMOTE GENDER EQUALITY NOT ONLY IN THE LABOUR MARKET BUT ALSO IN OTHER CRUCIAL AREAS SUCH AS EDUCATION, HEALTH, POLITICS AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. 3. LABOUR MARKET REGULATION AND GENDER POLICIES: INSIGHT INTO LABOUR MARKET REGULATION AND RELATED POLICIES, CONSIDERING HOW THESE INFLUENCE AND ARE INFLUENCED BY GENDER DYNAMICS AND DEVELOPMENT PROCESSES. 4. OCCUPATIONAL SEGREGATION AND WOMEN'S PARTICIPATION IN THE LABOUR MARKET: EXAMINATION OF THE ROLE OF GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN OCCUPATIONAL SEGREGATION AND THE ANALYSIS OF WOMEN'S PARTICIPATION IN THE LABOUR MARKET, WITH A FOCUS ON THE IMPLICATIONS FOR SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT. 5. ANALYSIS OF CASE STUDIES ON GENDER DISCRIMINATION: STUDY AND ANALYSIS OF SPECIFIC CASES CONCERNING GENDER EMPLOYMENT DISCRIMINATION AND OTHER FORMS OF GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN VARIOUS CONTEXTS, IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND THE DYNAMICS AND CHALLENGES RELATED TO THIS PHENOMENON IN PRACTICE AND IDENTIFY STRATEGIES FOR GENDER MAINSTREAMING. 6. CRITICAL EVALUATION OF REPORTS AND OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS ON GENDER EQUALITY: CRITICAL EXAMINATION OF REPORTS AND OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS ON GENDER EQUALITY NOT ONLY IN THE LABOUR MARKET BUT ALSO IN OTHER AREAS TO UNDERSTAND TRENDS, CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES RELATED TO THE PROMOTION OF GENDER EQUALITY AND GENDER MAINSTREAMING. |

THE COURSE WILL ADOPT AN INTERACTIVE AND PARTICIPATIVE TEACHING APPROACH, COMBINING LECTURES WITH EXERCISES AT THE CONCLUSION OF EACH PART OF THE PROGRAMME AND THE PREPARATION AND PRESENTATION OF PAPERS. DURING THE LECTURES, KEY CONCEPTS, THEORIES AND RELEVANT RESEARCH WILL BE PRESENTED, PROVIDING STUDENTS WITH A SOLID BASIS FOR UNDERSTANDING AND ANALYSING THE TOPICS. AT THE END OF EACH PART OF THE PROGRAMME, STUDENTS WILL ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN PRACTICAL EXERCISES AIMED AT CONSOLIDATING AND APPLYING THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED DURING THE LECTURES. THESE EXERCISES COULD INCLUDE CASE STUDY DISCUSSION SESSIONS, PRACTICAL EXERCISES, DATA ANALYSIS OR SIMULATIONS. STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO PURSUE SPECIFIC TOPICS OF INTEREST THROUGH THE PRESENTATION OF PAPERS ON TOPICS IDENTIFIED DURING THE COURSE, AGREEING THE ACTIVITY WITH THE LECTURER, WHO WILL ASSIST THEM IN DEVELOPING IT IN LINE WITH THE COURSE OBJECTIVES. |
