THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE AND INSIGHTS ON SPECIFIC ISSUES RELEVANT TO URBAN HYDRAULIC INFRASTRUCTURES. AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL POSSESS THE KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES RELATED TO CONCEPTUAL DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, HYDRAULIC TESTING, PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS, FUNCTIONAL DIAGNOSIS, REHABILITATION AND MANAGEMENT OF SUPPLY SYSTEMS, WATER DISTRIBUTION AND URBAN DRAINAGE SYSTEMS. THE FORMATIVE OBJECTIVES CAN BE SO IDENTIFIED: KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY: KNOWING THE REFERENCE REGULATORY FRAMEWORK AND UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEMS OF PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT OF HYDRAULIC INFRASTRUCTURES IN URBAN AND NON-URBAN ENVIRONMENT; ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: BEING ABLE, IN THE FIELD OF APPLICABLE REGULATIONS, IMPROVED SKILLS AND CONCEPTS, TO PREPARE A PROJECT ELABORATE FOR EACH HYDRAULIC INFRASTRUCTURE ILLUSTRATED DURING THE COURSE; JUDGMENT AUTONOMY: BEING ABLE TO RECOGNIZE THE METHODS TO BE ADOPTED FOR THE RESOLUTION OF PROBLEMATIC SPECIFICATIONS IN THE FIELD OF HYDRAULIC INFRASTRUCTURES IN THE URBAN AND NON URBAN ENVIRONMENT; COMMUNICATION SKILLS: TO BE ABLE TO WORK IN A GROUP AND TO BE ABLE TO ARGUENT IN TECHNICAL MANNER ABOUT THE TERMS OF IMPARTITE DURING THE COURSE; ABILITY TO LEARN: TO BE ABLE TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED TO THE CASES OF THE DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT OF HYDRAULIC INFRASTRUCTURES IN THE URBAN AND NON URBAN ENVIRONMENT. |

THE COURSE CONTENT INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING: WATER SUPPLY SYSTEMS (12 HOURS LECTURES AND 8 HOURS PRACTISE EXCERCISE): GROUNDWATER AND SURFACE WATER DERIVATION SYSTEMS. PUMPING SYSTEMS. SPECIAL AND RECURRENT OPERATING ACCESSORIES. WATER DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS (8 HOURS LECTURES AND 2 HOURS PRACTISE EXCERCISE): MATERIALS FOR PIPELINES. METHODS AND ELEMENTS OF RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT LOSSES. INSTALLATION TECHNIQUES AND REHABILITATION OF PIPELINES ON SITE. PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF WATER SYSTEMS. URBAN DRAINAGE NETWORKS (0 HOURS LECTURES AND 10 HOURS PRACTISE EXCERCISE): METHODS OF ASSESSMENT OF MAXIMUM DISCHARGE IN ARTIFICIAL URBAN NETWORKS. A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO URBAN RUN-OFF QUALITY MODELS. RECURRENT OPERATING ACCESSORIES: GUTTERS, DRAINS, MANHOLES. SPECIAL OPERATING ACCESSORIES: PUMPING SYSTEMS, ENERGY DISPERSION SYSTEMS, CROSSING SYSTEMS. STATIC BEHAVIOR OF STIFF CANALS AND PIPELINES. URBAN SURFACE RUN-OFF DISCHARGE INTO RIVERS, LAKES AND SEA. MONITORING OF DISCHARGES. RETENTION BASINS AND FIRST FLUSH RAIN WATER BASINS. |

THE COURSE INCLUDES LECTURES, TUTORIALS, AND DRAFTING OF TECHNICAL PROJECT DOCUMENTS, WRITTEN BY SMALL WORKING GROUPS IN COLLABORATION WITH THE ACADEMIC STAFF. THE LECTURES COVER 4 CFU WHILE THE PRATICE EXCERCISE COVER 2 CFU. SOME CASE STUDIES WILL BE PRESENTED DURING PLANNED TECHNICAL VISITS. |

THE ASSESSMENT OF THE LEARNING OUTCOMES, WHICH TAKE PLACE DURING THE FINAL ORAL EXAM, WILL BE CONDUCTED WITH REFERENCE TO A SET OF ELEMENTS, SUCH AS THE PROPERTIES OF LANGUAGE, THE CAPABILITY TO SOLVE MAIN KNOWN TECHNICAL ISSUES, THE CAPABILITY TO SYNTHESIZE BASIC NOTIONS TO SOLVE MAIN UNKNOWN TECHNICAL ISSUES, LEVEL OF DETAIL OF THE DRAFTED TECHNICAL PROJECT DOCUMENTS. FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE PRAISE WE WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT: - THE QUALITY OF THE EXPOSURE, IN TERMS OF USING APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE; - THE ABILITY OF CROSS-CORRELATION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND, WHERE POSSIBLE, WITH OTHER DISCIPLINES; - OF THE AUTONOMY OF PROVEN JUDGMENT. |
