THE EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS TO INTRODUCE CONCEPTS RELATED TO GEOGRAPHICAL NETWORKS DISTRIBUTED ON THE INTERNET INFRASTRUCTURE, IN ORDER TO ALLOW THE STUDY OF THEIR STRUCTURE, OF THEIR APPLICATIONS, THE ANALYSIS OF THEIR CHARACTERISTICS AND THEIR PERFORMANCE. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING MEASURING GEOGRAPHIC NETWORKS IS CRUCIAL TO UNDERSTANDING THE CURRENT INTERNET INFRASTRUCTURE, HOW IT WORKS, AND POSSIBLE IMPROVEMENTS THAT CAN BE MADE IN THE FUTURE. HOWEVER, THERE ARE VARIOUS CHALLENGES IN THIS FIELD DUE MAINLY TO ITS DYNAMIC NATURE AND ITS STATISTICAL PROPERTIES, WHICH ARE NOTABLY DIFFERENT FROM THOSE OF CONVENTIONAL MEDIA. THIS COURSE WILL INTRODUCE CONCEPTS RELATED TO THE INTERNET INFRASTRUCTURE AND ITS OPERATION. THE CONCEPTS OF MEASURING NETWORK TRAFFIC WILL BE INTRODUCED THROUGH THE STUDY OF VARIOUS PROBLEMS RELATED TO INTERNET ACCESS (EVEN FROM MOBILE DEVICES) AND THE ANALYSIS OF DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING STUDENTS OF THIS COURSE WILL ACQUIRE SKILLS FOR ANALYZING NETWORK TRAFFIC, FOR ANALYZING APPLICATIONS, FOR ANALYZING THE HUMAN BEHAVIORS ON INTERNET, AND FINALLY, FOR ANALYZING SYSTEM PERFORMANCE AND FOR USING VARIOUS ANALYSIS SOFTWARE. MAKING JUDGEMENTS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO ANALYZE THE TRAFFIC OF DISTRIBUTED NETWORKS AND APPLICATIONS WITH THE ABILITY TO IMPROVE EXISTING SYSTEMS AND SOLVE EXISTING AND FUTURE PROBLEMS COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE THE RESULTS REGARDING THE ANALYSES OF NETWORK SYSTEMS, THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE UNDERLYING TRAFFIC AND ITS USAGE, AND FINALLY OF THEIR APPLICATIONS. LEARNING SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - ANALYZE INTERNET TRAFFIC; - USE DIFFERENT TRAFFIC ANALYSIS TOOLS; - USE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND SOCIAL MEDIA ANALYSIS MODELS AND TECHNIQUES TO ANALYZE TRAFFIC ON THE INTERNET - KEEP UPDATING USING THE TECHNICAL AND SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE |
Prerequisites | |

Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
THE COURSE CONSISTS OF THEORETICAL LESSONS (6 CFU) AND SOME LABORATORY PRACTICE CLASS (CFU) WHERE STUDENTS WILL ANALYZE INTERNET TRAFFIC IN DIFFERENT DOMAINS AND FOR DIFFERENT APPLICATIONS. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
SIX EXAM SESSIONS DURING THE WHOLE ACADEMIC YEAR, IN ADDITION TO TWO SPECIAL ONES RESERVED TO STUDENTS THAT ARE NOT ATTENDING CLASSES. EACH SESSION IS PROVIDED WITH A WRITTEN/LAB TEST OR WITH A PROJECT MADE DURING THE COURSE, AND AN ORAL TEST. THE WRITTEN / PRACTICAL TEST IS PREPARATORY TO THE ORAL EXAM. THE RESULTING MARK IS CALCULATED USING A AVERAGE OF THE TWO TEST MARKS. |
