Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE TOOLS OF ANALYSIS OF THE GEOPOLITICAL SCENARIOS, SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL EUROPE, REFERRING TO THE GLOBAL CONTEXT.
THE AIM IS TO PROMOTE KNOWLEDGE OF THE "HEART" OF REGIONAL PLANNING, ALLOWING YOU TO CONNECT THE "HORIZONTAL RELATIONSHIPS" THAT SUBSTANTIATE THE ECONOMIC RELATIONS, POLITICAL AND SOCIAL BETWEEN THE REGIONS AND EUROPEAN COUNTRIES AND "VERTICAL" RELATIONSHIPS LINK DIFFERENT TERRITORIES IN THE HISTORY, CULTURE AND NATURAL ENVIRONMENT. IN ADDITION, THROUGH THE CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF SPECIFIC TEXTS WILL BE STUDIED ISSUES RELATED TO THE LATEST GEOPOLITICAL DYNAMICS IN PLACE AT EUROPEAN AND GLOBAL LEVEL.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
IN ORDER TO FACILITATE THE PROCESSES OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE ISSUES UNDER STUDY, THE COURSE INCLUDES:
- THE USE OF UPDATED TEXTBOOKS, MAGAZINES, SECTOR STUDIES AND OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS WILL BE THE SUBJECT OF ANALYSIS AND DEBATE;
- THE USE OF METHODS AND TOOLS OF GEOGRAPHY, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE USE OF CARTOGRAPHIC LANGUAGE AND TECHNIQUES OF REPRESENTATION AND INTERPRETATION OF SPATIAL PHENOMENA;
- THE IDENTIFICATION, PROCESSING AND INTERPRETATION OF SPATIAL DATA AIMED AT THE REALIZATION OF INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP WORK.
APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROMOTE:
- THE ABILITY TO TRANSLATE THE SKILLS ACQUIRED IN WORKING INSTRUMENTS, WITH REFERENCE TO THE IDENTIFICATION OF SKILLS AND CRITICAL SELECTION OF SOURCES OF INFORMATION, THE COLLECTION AND PROCESSING OF DATA, IMPLEMENTATION OF GRAPHIC AND CARTOGRAPHIC REPRESENTATIONS, SYSTEMIC INTERPRETATION OF SPATIAL PHENOMENA AT DIFFERENT SCALES. THE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT DURING THE COURSE WILL ENABLE STUDENTS TO ACQUIRE EXPENDABLE METHODOLOGIES IN VARIOUS PROFESSIONAL CONTEXTS;
- THE ABILITY TO APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE GAINED IN A PROFESSIONAL PERSPECTIVE, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE IDENTIFICATION OF OPPORTUNITIES FROM THE EUROPEAN INSTITUTIONS AS WELL AS BY ECONOMIC SECTORS IS GEARED TO LOCAL DEVELOPMENT IS THE INTERNATIONALIZATION PROCESS.
Prerequisites
CONSOLIDATED KNOWLEDGE OF WRITTEN AND ORAL; BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF MODERN EUROPEAN HISTORY AND CONTEMPORARY; BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF GENERAL GEOGRAPHY.

THE COURSE PROVIDES FOR THE HOLDING OF THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:
- THE TOOLS FOR GEOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS (THEMATIC AND TECHNICAL PAPERS, STATISTICS AND GRAPHIC AND CARTOGRAPHIC REPRESENTATIONS);
- THE EUROPEAN AREA IN THE GLOBAL CONTEXT;
- ENVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS AND ISSUES RELATED TO THE MANAGEMENT OF NATURAL SPACES;
- THE PROCESSES OF CONSTRUCTION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION AND RECENT GEOPOLITICAL TRANSFORMATIONS;
- SOCIO-DEMOGRAPHIC AND TERRITORIAL IMPLICATIONS OF THE DEVELOPMENT AND DISTRIBUTION OF THE POPULATION;
- NETWORKS OF CITIES AND THE EUROPEAN URBANIZATION;
- THE ECONOMIC STRUCTURE AND THE MAIN TRENDS IN THE AGRICULTURAL SECTORS, INDUSTRIAL AND SERVICE SECTORS, INCLUDING KEY EUROPEAN POLICIES ADOPTED FOR THE DIFFERENT SECTORS;
- TERRITORIAL IMBALANCES IN THE EUROPEAN UNION;
- COHESION POLICY AND STRUCTURAL FUNDS;
- THEMATIC ANALYSIS ON CURRENT AFFAIRS AND THE LATEST GEOPOLITICAL EVENTS IN EUROPE.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE PROVIDES FOR THE HOLDING OF:
- LECTURES (SUPPORTED BY THE USE OF DOCUMENTARY TOOLS, MAPPING, GRAPHICS AND PHOTOGRAPHIC) FINALIZED WITH THE GENERAL FRAMEWORK AND THE DISCUSSION OF THE TOPICS COVERED BY THE COURSE;
- EXERCISES, RESEARCH AND GROUP WORK FOR THE DEEPENING OF THE TOPICS COVERED;
- SEMINARS ON CURRENT CASES RELATING TO THE ISSUES.

ATTENDANCE IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.
Verification of learning
THE EXAMINATION PROVIDES FOR THE HOLDING OF AN ORAL EXAMINATION DURING WHICH THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE THAT THEY HAVE ACQUIRED THE KEY TOOLS AND LANGUAGES AND GEOGRAPHICAL ANALYSIS TO KNOW, DISCUSSING THEM CRITICALLY, THE ISSUES ANALYZED DURING THE COURSE RELATIVE TO ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE, DEMOGRAPHIC AND ECONOMIC OF CONTEMPORARY EUROPEAN REALITY.
