Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE AN UNDERSTANDING OF THE GEOPOLITICAL AND GEO-ECONOMIC DYNAMICS TAKING PLACE ON A GLOBAL SCALE, IN RELATION TO THE PROSPECT OF STUDYING OR WORKING IN EXTRA-NATIONAL CONTEXTS OR, IN ANY CASE, OF INTEREST TO INTERNATIONAL SCENARIOS.
KNOWLEDGE AND COMPREHENSION SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL BE FAMILIAR WITH
- THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS NECESSARY FOR GEOPOLITICAL AND GEOECONOMIC ANALYSIS;
- THE CHANGES TAKING PLACE IN THE GEOPOLITICAL SCENARIO OF THE WORLD ECONOMY;
- THE ECONOMIC-POLITICAL EVOLUTION OF CERTAIN WORLD MACRO-AREAS SUCH AS THE EUROPEAN UNION AND OTHER REGIONAL ORGANISATIONS, AND OF THE BRIC COUNTRIES;
- THE TRANSFORMATIONS TAKING PLACE IN CERTAIN PARTS OF THE PLANET AND THE CONSEQUENT SEARCH FOR NEW WORLD ECONOMIC ORDERS.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
- OUTLINE AN EXPLANATORY FRAMEWORK OF THE RELATIONS BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT FORMS OF THE ECONOMY AND THE GEOGRAPHICAL SPACES OF THE PLANET;
- ANALYSE THE EFFECTS AND PROPAGATION DYNAMICS BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TERRITORIAL SCALES, FROM GLOBAL TO REGIONAL AND LOCAL, AND VICE VERSA;
- SHOW ANALYTICAL, INTERPRETATIVE AND CRITICAL CAPACITY, IN A GEOGRAPHICAL PERSPECTIVE, OF THE MAIN POLITICAL, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL EVENTS OF THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD.

THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO
- COMPARE IDEAS AND HYPOTHESES WITH RESPECT TO THEMES OF REFLECTION AND STUDY;
- DEEPEN AND DISCERN RELEVANT THEMES WITH RESPECT TO MORE GENERAL PHENOMENA ADDRESSED;
- MAKE A SELECTION OF DATA OR SOURCES FOR THE ACHIEVEMENT OF RESEARCH AND STUDY OBJECTIVES.

- ORGANISE STUDY AND RESEARCH RESULTS IN DOCUMENTARY, GRAPHIC AND ICONOGRAPHIC VERSIONS SUITABLE FOR PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS;
- REPORT BRIEFLY ON THE RESULTS OF COLLECTIVE OR INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH AND STUDIES;
- DEAL WITH PARTICIPATION IN GROUP WORK.

TO TAKE THE ECONOMIC POLITICAL GEOGRAPHY EXAM, IT IS PREREQUISITE TO HAVE PASSED THE GEOGRAPHY EXAM.

DEMOGRAPHY, RELIGIONS AND CONFLICTS;
GEOPOLITICS OF RESOURCES;

ANALYSIS OF SPATIAL SCENARIOS (12 HOURS)
FRACTURES AND GLOBAL GOVERNANCE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN;
FAULTS AND EMERGENCES: SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA AND SOUTHEAST ASIA;
CHINA AND THE SILK ROAD;
THE GEOPOLITICAL POTENTIAL OF CSI AND RUSSIA;
EUROPEAN GEOPOLITICS;
THE SPACES OF THE NEW CONTINENT.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE INVOLVES THE DEVELOPMENT OF:
- FACE-TO-FACE LECTURES (SUPPORTED BY THE USE OF DOCUMENTARY, CARTOGRAPHIC, GRAPHIC AND PHOTOGRAPHIC TOOLS) AIMED AT THE GENERAL FRAMING AND DISCUSSION OF THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE COURSE;
- EXERCISES, RESEARCH AND GROUP WORK FOR IN-DEPTH STUDY OF THE TOPICS COVERED;
- SEMINARS DEALING WITH CURRENT CASES RELEVANT TO THE TOPICS COVERED.
THE MODE OF WORK IS LABORATORY-BASED, IS CARRIED OUT IN THE COMPUTER CLASSROOM AND PRESUPPOSES THE USE OF OPEN SOURCE INFORMATION AND CARTOGRAPHIC MATERIALS AS WELL AS THE USE AND MANAGEMENT OF SPATIAL DATA.
ATTENDANCE IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

Verification of learning
THE EXAMINATION INCLUDES THE CONDUCT OF AN ORAL TEST DURING WHICH THE STUDENT MUST DEMONSTRATE:
KNOW AND BE ABLE TO USE TOOLS AND METHODS FOR POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY ANALYSIS.
KNOW AND BE ABLE TO ARGUE THE MAJOR THEMES OF POLITICAL ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY
KNOW AND BE ABLE TO REPRESENT, THROUGH THE PARADIGMS AND TOOLS OF GEOGRAPHY THE TERRITORIAL SCENARIOS ANALYZED.
KNOW AND BE ABLE TO CRITICALLY DISCUSS THE ROLE OF SELECTED MACRO-AREAS DURING THE COURSE IN RELATION TO ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY AND LANGUAGE MEDIATION.

ASSESSMENT THRESHOLDS WILL BE GRADED ACCORDING TO INDIVIDUAL PREPAREDNESS.
IN PARTICULAR, MINIMUM THRESHOLDS OF POSITIVE ASSESSMENT (18 TO 22 THIRTIETHS) WILL BE AWARDED AGAINST THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO KNOW THE MAIN THEMES OF THE DISCIPLINE, THE WORLD'S ARTICULATION INTO MAJOR MACRO GEOPOLITICAL AREAS AND THE MAIN GEOGRAPHICAL FEATURES OF THESE AREAS.
INTERMEDIATE ASSESSMENT THRESHOLDS (23 TO 26 THIRTIETHS) WILL BE AWARDED TO STUDENTS ABLE TO CORRELATE THE GEOPOLITICAL DYNAMICS OF THE MACRO AREAS TO THE SPECIFIC CONNOTATIONS OF THE TERRITORIES AND THE IMPLICATIONS OF A GLOBAL CHARACTER, USING GIVEN DATA AND MAPS.
OPTIMUM LEVELS OF ASSESSMENT ( 27 TO 30 THIRTIETHS) WILL BE AWARDED TO STUDENTS ABLE TO DIACHRONICALLY AND INDEPENDENTLY RECONSTRUCT SPATIAL DATA AND INFORMATION AIMED AT REPRESENTING COGNITIVE FRAMEWORKS AT DIFFERENT SCALES.
