THE OBJECTIVE IS TO ALLOW STUDENTS TO INDEPENDENTLY CREATE MAPS, IN A GIS ENVIRONMENT, APPLIED TO THE CULTURAL HERITAGE SECTOR KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO KNOW: - THE PRINCIPLES OF CARTOGRAPHY AND CARTOGRAPHIC RENDERING; - USE AND FUNCTIONS OF MAPPING SOFTWARE; - THE ROLE OF CARTOGRAPHY IN THE STUDY AND TERRITORIALIZED REPRESENTATION OF ASSETS CULTURAL ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THROUGH THE STUDY OF THE DISCIPLINE, THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: - ACQUIRE DATA, BUILD DATABASES AND FORMULATE LEVELS OF REPRESENTATION; - USE MAP PROCESSING SOFTWARE; - CREATE THEMATIC MAPS AT DIFFERENT SCALES, MULTILAYER AND WITH LAYOUTS; - LOCATE AND GEOREFERENCE SPATIAL ATTRIBUTES AND CULTURAL ASSETS; - CARRY OUT CONTEXTUAL ANALYSES. AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: IDENTIFY PREVAILING PRIORITIES AND THEMES WITHIN GENERAL THEMATIC AREAS; SELECT STATISTICAL SOURCES AND DOCUMENTARIES; CRITICALLY PROCESS INFORMATION AND DATA. COMMUNICATION SKILL THE STUDENT WILL KNOW: ORGANIZATION OF STUDY AND RESEARCH RESULTS INTO DOCUMENTARY, GRAPHIC AND ICONOGRAPHIC VERSIONS SUITABLE FOR PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS; SYNTHETICALLY RELATIONAL ON THE RESULTS OF COLLECTIVE OR INDIVIDUAL RESEARCH AND STUDIES; ADDRESS PARTICIPATION IN GROUP WORK. LEARNING ABILITY THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO: IDENTIFY AND ACCESS OPEN SOURCE SOURCES FOR THE ACQUISITION OF DATA OF INTEREST; SYSTEMATIZE AND PROCESS DATA AND DOCUMENTARY SOURCES; CREATE GRAPHIC SUMMARIES; CARRY OUT STUDIES AND THEMATIC INSIGHTS. |
Prerequisites | |
---|---|
CONSOLIDATED KNOWLEDGE OF WRITTEN AND ORAL ITALIAN; BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF GENERAL GEOGRAPHY. |
Contents | |
---|---|
THE FOLLOWING CONTENTS WILL BE COVERED DURING THE COURSE: INTRODUCTION TO CARTOGRAPHY AND GIS OVERVIEW (2 HOURS); REFERENCE SYSTEMS: DATUM (2 HOURS); RASTER, VECTOR DATA, PROJECTIONS (2 HOURS); CARTOGRAPHIC PRODUCTION IN ITALY (2 HOURS); QGIS: SOFTWARE, USER INTERFACE, PANELS AND TOOLBARS (2 HOURS); MANAGEMENT OF LINKS TO GEODATA (4 HOURS); CONSTRUCTION OF A GEOGRAPHIC DATABASE (4 HOURS); ELEMENTS, RULES AND RELATIONSHIPS (4 HOURS) WORKING WITH CAL TABLES. FIELD (4 HOURS); LAYOUT SETUP (4 HOURS). |
Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
THE COURSE, CARRIED OUT IN A MULTIMEDIA CLASSROOM, INVOLVES: FRONTAL LESSONS TO COVER THE PRINCIPLES OF CARTOGRAPHY AND SPATIAL ANALYSIS; PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES AIMED AT USING THE QGIS CARTOGRAPHIC SOFTWARE: FROM THE INSTALLATION OF THE LTR TO THE USE OF THE MAIN TOOLS; EXERCISES AND GROUP WORK, LED BY THE TEACHER, AIMED AT AUTONOMOUS USE OF THE SOFTWARE; EXERCISES RELATED TO THE USE OF CARTOGRAPHY AND GIS IN THE DISCIPLINARY FIELD; RETURN OF A SELF-PRODUCED MAP ON A THEME ASSIGNED BY THE TEACHER. ATTENDANCE IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED. |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
THE EXAM INCLUDES A FINAL TEST, DURING WHICH THE STUDENT WILL HAVE TO DEMONSTRATE THAT HE HAS CRITICALLY ACQUIRED THE MAIN DISCIPLINARY CONTENTS. THE MINIMUM POSITIVE EVALUATION THRESHOLD WILL BE REACHED IN CASES OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE THEORETICAL PRINCIPLES OF CARTOGRAPHY AND KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN TOOLS OF THE QGIS SOFTWARE. HIGHER LEVELS OF ASSESSMENT WILL BE DETERMINED BY TESTING THE FOLLOWING SKILLS; USE MORE ADVANCED TOOLS OF THE GIS SOFTWARE, CREATE A THEMATIC MAP, INTERPRET CARTOGRAPHIC ELABORATIONS ON TOPICS OF INTEREST. THE MAXIMUM THRESHOLD WILL BE REACHED IN CASES WHERE THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES THE ABILITY TO CONNECT THEORETICAL PRINCIPLES TO FORMS OF TERRITORIALIZATION OF CONCEPTS, TO BE ABLE TO PRESENT CASE STUDIES ANALYZED DURING THE COURSE, AND TO FORMULATE CONNECTIONS BETWEEN THEMES AND GIS APPLICATIONS. |
