TO PROVIDE BASIC KNOWLEDGE ON LAND USE PLANNING PROCESSES AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES AT EU, NATIONAL, REGIONAL AND LOCAL LEVEL; TO DEVELOP THE CAPACITY FOR ANALYSIS OF SPATIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS; TO OPERATIONALLY INTRODUCE STUDENTS TO THE ACTIVITIES AND PLANNING PROCESSES, UNDERSTOOD AS MULTIDISCIPLINARY ACTIVITIES, AT THE INTERFACE BETWEEN RESEARCH, TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIAL REALITY. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING • KNOWLEDGE OF THE PLANNING SYSTEM AND THE SYSTEM OF CONSTRAINTS; • BASIC KNOWLEDGE WHICH ALLOWS THE ANALYSIS OF SETTLEMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS; • KNOWLEDGE OF THE ANALYSIS OF THE INTERACTION OF THE SETTLEMENT SYSTEM WITH THE MAIN TYPES OF TERRITORIAL HAZARD (SUCH AS THE SEISMIC AND HYDROGEOLOGICAL ONE, AS WELL AS THE ONE DERIVING FROM SIGNIFICANT ACCIDENT AND FIRE). • KNOWLEDGE OF SPATIAL ANALYSIS TECHNIQUES, IMPLEMENTED IN A DEDICATED GIS SOFTWARE, AIMED AT PLANNING AN ECOLOGICAL NETWORK. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING • ANALYSIS OF THE LAND USE AND ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS AND THEIR INTERACTION WITH THE SPATIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING TOOLS; • ANALYSIS OF TERRITORIAL RISKS; • CONSTRUCTION OF SUITABILITY SCENARIOS TO SUPPORT THE PLANNING OF THE ECOLOGICAL NETWORK. JUDGMENT AUTONOMY ACQUISITION OF AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT IN RELATION TO THE RESPONSIBILITY AND MANAGEMENT OF TRIALS, THAT DEAL WITH SPATIAL PLANNING CONCERNS LEARNING ABILITY ABILITY TO EXPAND THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE BY MEANS OF THE READING AND UNDERSTANDING OF SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNIC TEXTS. ACQUISITION OF A SCIENTIFIC METHOD TO BE USED IN DIFFERENT CONTEXTS OF WORK AND RESEARCH |

THE COURSE INCLUDES BOTH HOURS OF LECTURES AND HOURS OF GUIDED EXERCISES, DURING WHICH STUDENTS DIRECTLY APPLY WHAT THE LECTURER HAS ALREADY INTRODUCED. TEACHING LESSONS (40H) THE TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THE CLASSROOM ARE: 1) SYSTEM OF SPATIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING 2) SYSTEM OF CONSTRAINTS ON THE LAND USE 3) METHODS OF ANALYSIS OF THE LAND USE SYSTEM - KERNEL DENSITY ESTIMATION - METRICS RELATED TO THE LANDSCAPE ECOLOGY 4) RISK ACTIVITIES - SEISMIC RISK - HYDROGEOLOGICAL RISK - FIRE RISK - INDUSTRIAL RISK - ENVIRONMENTAL RISK 5) THE ECOLOGICAL NETWORK PLANNING - ECOSYSTEM SERVICES - GREEN INFRASTRUCTURES - NETWORK ANALYSIS METRICS EXERCISE ACTIVITIES (12H): THE TOPICS OF THE TRAINING ACTIVITIES ARE TO: 1) FIND DATA FROM THE OFFICIAL DATABASE QUERY AND ORGANIZING THEM IN A GEODATABASE. 2) CONSTRUCT AND ANALYSE A GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE THAT MAXIMIZES ECOSYSTEM SERVICES APPLIED TO A SPECIFIC STUDY AREA BY USING OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE, SUCH AS GRAPHAB 2.0 AND QUANTUM GIS. |
Teaching Methods | |

THE COURSE INCLUDES 40 HOURS OF LECTURES, WHICH TAKE PLACE IN THE CLASSROOM WITH THE AID OF PRESENTATIONS, AND 12 HOURS OF PRACTICAL EXERCISES (6 CFUS), WHICH ARE ALSO PROVIDED WITH THE HELP OF A SPECIFIC GIS SOFTWARE. THE FREQUENCY OF CLASSROOM LESSONS AND LABORATORY PRACTICE IS COMPULSORY. IN ORDER TO ACCESS THE FINAL EXAM, STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND A MINIMUM OF 70% OF THE TUITION HOURS. THE ATTENDANCE VERIFICATION MODE IS ANNOUNCED BY THE LECTURER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LECTURES. |

THE LEVEL OF ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE IS CERTIFIED BY PASSING A FINAL ASSESSMENT MARKED IN THIRTIETHS. THE FINAL ASSESSMENT INVOLVES AN ORAL EXAMINATION INCLUDING THE PRESENTATION OF A TECHNICAL REPORT PRODUCED BY THE STUDENT INDEPENDENTLY OR IN A GROUP ON A TOPIC INDICATED BY THE LECTURER. ITS PURPOSE IS TO VERIFY: THE ABILITY OF UNDERSTANDING THE PROBLEMS PROPOSED DURING THE CLASSES AND APPLYING PROPERLY THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE, AND THE ABILITY OF DEMONSTRATING THEM EFFECTIVELY AND PERTINENTLY. THE ASSESSMENT CONSISTS OF A DISCUSSION LASTING ABOUT 30 MINUTES TO ENSURE: • THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE OF THEORETICAL CONTENTS • THE LEVEL OF CONFIDENCE: LANGUAGE PROPERTIES, LOGICAL - DEDUCTIVE AND SYNTHESIS CAPABILITIES, ABILITY OF ARGUMENTATION, AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT IN PROPOSING THE MOST APPROPRIATE APPROACH OF ARGUING WHAT IS REQUIRED. THE MINIMUM VOTE FOR PASSING THE EXAM IS 18/30. THE PRAISE MAY BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS WHO REACH THE MAXIMUM RATING OF 30/30 AND DEMONSTRATE THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO APPLY THEIR OWN KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ACQUIRED ALSO IN OTHER CONTEXTS. |
