Francesco BASILE Curriculum

Francesco Basile was born in Naples, Italy, on 20 May 1971. He received the Laurea degree in Electronic Engineering in 1995 and the Ph.D. degree in Electronic and Computer Engineering in 1999. From May 1996 to February 1997, he worked as Process Engineer at the Proma Group, a multinational company specialized in metal working for automotive industry. In 1999 he was visiting researcher for six months at the Departamento de Ingenieria Informatica y Systems of the University of Saragoza, Spain. From January 2000 to December 2001 he has been Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Naples. From 2002 to October 2014 he has been assistant professor of Automatic Control at the Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Informazione e Ingegneria Elettrica of the University of Salerno, Italy. From October 2014 to March 2020 he has been Associate Professor of Automatic Control at the Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Informazione e Ingegneria Elettrica of the University of Salerno. From March 2020 he is Full Professor of Automatic Control at the Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Informazione e Ingegneria Elettrica of the University of Salerno. He has published more than 100 papers on international journals and conferences. His current research interests are: modelling and control of discrete event systems, industrial automation and robotic. He has been member of the scientific committee of many international conferences.

He has been General Chair of 14th International Workshop on Discrete Event Systems (WODES 2018).

He has been member of the editorial board of International Journal of Robotics and Automation, IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology and IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering and IEEE Control Systems Letters. He has been member of IEEE Control System Society Conference Editorial Board.

He has been Principal Investigator of the project "Strumenti innovativi per la progettazione di software per l'automazione" supported by Legge Regionale Campania n.5/2002 - Finanziamento 2005 and of the project "Automazione orientata ai servizi per linee produzione iperflessibili" supported by Legge Regionale Campania n.5/2002 - Finanziamento 2008. From July 2004 to January 2005 he has been Principal Investigator of a research project with TECHNOSYSTEM srl about the design of an advanced hydraulic position servo controller for an USV (Unmanned Space Vehicle). From October 2010 to March 2012 he has been Principal Investigator of a research project with EVERIS Italia Spa about the research activities of the research project "OPEN" about the development of discrete event models for the fault analysis of computer numerical control machines. He obtained two Research Fellowships from Xidian University, Xi’an (China) in 2016 and 2018 to start new medium/long term research collaborations and co-supervision of Master and Phd Students.

From September 2022 he is coordinator of a research project with Beta 80 Spa Milano, Italy, about resource optimization in material
handling systems. From January 2023 he is Scientific Cunsultant of Xidian University, Xi’an (China), within a research program about automation systems.
