THE COURSE AIMS AT LEARNING METHODS FOR THE DESIGN, CONFIGURATION, AND PROGRAMMING OF AUTOMATION CONTROL SYSTEMS. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING TO DESIGN CONTROLLERS FOR AUTOMATION CONTROL SYSTEMS AND EVALUATE THEIR PERFORMANCES. APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING. PROGRAMMING CONTROL DEVICES ACCORDING TO THE IEC 61131 STANDARD. LECTURES, CLASSROOM AND LABORATORY PRACTICE. IN CLASSROOM PRACTICE, PROBLEMS ARE ASSIGNED, SOLVED AND DISCUSSED. IN LABORATORY PRACTICE PROBLEMS ARE SOLVED USING OFF-THE-SHELF INDUSTRIAL CONTROL ARCHITECTURE, AND VALIDATED USING PROCESS EMULATORS. IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE TO THE FINAL ASSESSMENT AND TO GAIN THE CREDITS CORRESPONDING TO THE COURSE, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 70% OF THE HOURS OF ASSISTED TEACHING ACTIVITIES. |

THE FINAL EXAM IS DESIGNED TO EVALUATE AS A WHOLE: THE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE CONCEPTS PRESENTED IN THE COURSE, THE ABILITY TO APPLY THAT KNOWLEDGE TO SOLVE PROBLEMS OF AUTOMATION SYSTEMS CONTROL, INDEPENDENCE OF JUDGMENT, COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND THE ABILITY TO LEARN. THE EXAM CONSISTS OF A WRITTEN TEST, WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO ASSESS THE ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE, TO WRITE A TECHNICAL REPORT, THE INDEPENDENCE OF JUDGMENT, AND AN ORAL INTERVIEW, THE PURPOSE OF WHICH IS TO ASSESS THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTANDING, THE ABILITY TO LEARN, ORAL PRESENTATION. THE WRITTEN TEST CONSISTS IN THE DESIGN OF AN ALGORITHM TO CONTROL A SIMPLE AUTOMATION SYSTEMS AND IN QUESTIONS ABOUT COURSE TOPICS. THE ALGORITHM MUST BE IMPLEMENTABLE ON A CONTROL DEVICE ACCORDING TO IEC-61131. THE WRITTEN TEST WILL BE EVALUATED BY THE FOLLOWING SCALE: EXCELLENT (OTTIMO), GOOD (BUONO), FAIR (DISCRETE), SUFFICIENT (SUFFICIENT), REJECTED (INSUFFICIENTE). REJECTED TEST MUST BE REPEATED. THE TEST WILL BE ASSESSED AS SUFFICIENT IF THE CONTROL ALGORITHM HAS BEEN CORRECTLY SET EVEN IF THE PROGRAM REQUIRED FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION IS INCORRECT. THE TEST WILL BE EVALUATED AS EXCELLENT IF THE CONTROL ALGORITHM HAS BEEN DESIGNED CORRECTLY WITH A CLEAR EXPOSITION OF THE USED METHODOLOGIES. THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTIONS ABOUT COURSE TOPICS WILL BE EVALUATED TO ASSESS THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTANDING, THE ABILITY TO LEARN, AND THE QUALITY OF PRESENTATION IN WRITTEN FORM. THE ORAL EXAMINATION WILL COVER ALL THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND ASSESSMENT WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE KNOWLEDGE DEMONSTRATED BY THE STUDENT AND THE DEGREE OF ITS DEPTH, PROVEN ABILITY TO LEARN, THE QUALITY OF THE PRESENTATION. THE FINAL EVALUATION, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS, DEPENDS ON THE MATURITY GAINED ON THE COURSE CONTENT, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE QUALITY OF WRITTEN AND ORAL EXAM AND THE MAKING JUDGMENT DEMONSTRATED. THE EVALUATION OF THE WRITTEN TEST WILL ACCOUNT FOR 40% AND THE ORAL EXAM FOR 60%. THE CUM LAUDE MAY BE GIVEN TO STUDENTS WHO DEMONSTRATE THAT THEY CAN APPLY THE KNOWLEDGE AUTONOMOUSLY EVEN IN CONTEXTS OTHER THAN THOSE PROPOSED IN THE COURSE. |
