Objectives
THE MAIN OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE IS TO CONSOLIDATE COMPETENCE IN THE GERMAN LANGUAGE THROUGH THE ANALYSIS OF GERMAN LITERARY AND SPECIALISED TEXTS AND THEIR TRANSLATION INTO ITALIAN, WITH COLLECTIVE REFLECTION ON THE PROBLEMS FACED DURING THE TRANSLATION PROCESS AND THE TRANSLATION STRATEGIES APPLIED FROM TIME TO TIME. IT ALSO AIMS TO ACHIEVE WRITTEN AND ORAL COMPETENCES EQUIVALENT TO LEVEL C1 OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES.
THE LITERATURE AND LITERARY TRANSLATION CURRICULUM AIMS TO DEEPEN THE CRITICAL REFLECTION ON THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL ISSUES CONCERNING DIFFERENT TYPES OF LITERARY TRANSLATION AND CRITICAL TEXTS.
THE LINGUISTICS AND DIDACTICS OF LANGUAGES CURRICULUM AIMS TO IMPROVE METHODOLOGICAL AND LINGUISTIC SKILLS WHILE FACILITATING THE TEACHING/LEARNING OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ALSO IN RELATION TO ISSUES OF DEFINITION IN INTERLINGUAL AND INTRALINGUAL TRANSLATION PROCESSES.
THE LANGUAGES FOR THE RESOURCES AND THE ECONOMIES OF THE TERRITORY CURRICULUM AIMS AT THE DEEPENING OF THE SPECIAL LANGUAGES AND SPECIALIZED TRANSLATION.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL KNOW ABOUT:
-TECHNIQUES OF TEXTUAL LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS;
-TRANSLATION METHODS AND APPROACHES TO VARIOUS TEXTUAL, LITERARY AND SECTORAL GENRES;
-THE VARIANTS AND VARIETIES OF THE GERMAN LANGUAGE;
-WRITTEN AND ORAL SKILLS AT LEVEL C1 OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
STUDENTS WILL KNOW HOW TO:
-APPLY THEIR LINGUISTIC KNOWLEDGE TO DIFFERENT CULTURAL AND PROFESSIONAL FIELDS;
-APPLY THE STUDY OF COMPLEX LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA TO THE PROBLEMS OF TRANSLATION AND REFORMULATION IN DIFFERENT WAYS AND WITH DIFFERENT OBJECTIVES;
-RECOGNIZE DIFFERENT TEXT TYPES AND TRANSLATE THEM FROM GERMAN INTO ITALIAN.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-COMPARE AND EVALUATE DIFFERENT TRANSLATION METHODS AND APPROACHES AS WELL AS DRAWING APPROPRIATE CONCLUSIONS;
-KNOW HOW TO ADAPT THE TRANSLATION OF FOREIGN TEXTS TO THE ITALIAN LANGUAGE;
-HAVE A DEVELOPED ABILITY TO TRANSLATE TEXTS FROM VARIOUS PROFESSIONAL FIELDS.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS
STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO:
-EXPRESS THE CONTENTS OF TEXTS IN GERMAN AND ITS TRANSLATION IN A NARRATIVE OR SYNTHETIC WAY ;
-ACHIEVE A LEVEL OF WRITTEN AND ORAL COMPETENCE EQUAL TO THE C1 LEVEL OF THE COMMON EUROPEAN FRAMEWORK OF REFERENCE FOR LANGUAGES;

LEARNING SKILLS
STUDENTS WILL ACQUIRE:
-METHODOLOGICAL SKILLS IN THE LINGUISTIC AND TRANSLATION ANALYSIS OF SPECIALISED TEXTS (LITERATURE AND SCIENCE TEXTS);
-A THOROUGH WRITTEN AND ORAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE GERMAN LANGUAGE.
Prerequisites
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE PASSED THE IV LANGUAGE EXAM REQUIRED AT THE END OF THE FIRST YEAR OF THE MASTER'S DEGREE COURSE.
Contents
AFTER AN INTRODUCTION TO THE THEORY OF TRANSLATION AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE GERMAN AREA, YOU WILL WORK ON THE TRANSLATION OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF TEXTS FROM GERMAN INTO ITALIAN: LITERARY TEXTS BY CONTEMPORARY AUTHORS, FILM SCRIPTS, WEBSITES AND SCIENTIFIC TEXTS.
Teaching Methods
LECTURES IN GERMAN AND ITALIAN; TRANSLATION EXERCISES FROM GERMAN INTO ITALIAN, EXERCICES WITH NATIVE SPEAKERS.
Verification of learning
THE COMMON REFLECTION ON THE TRANSLATIONS CARRIED OUT DURING THE COURSE, IN ADDITION TO VERIFYING THE CORRECT APPLICATION OF THE TEXTUAL ANALYSIS TOOLS ON THE SOURCE TEXTS, AIMS AT RECOGNISING THE MORPHO-SYNTACTIC AND STYLISTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF EACH TEXT, OBSERVING THE LITERARY STRATEGIES USED BY THE AUTHORS AND RECOGNISING THE TRANSLATION STRATEGIES APPLIED IN THE TARGET LANGUAGE.
THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF: 1) A WRITTEN GRAMMAR TEST, AIMED AT ASSESSING THE STUDENT'S LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE OF GERMAN; 2) A WRITTEN TRANSLATION TEST DURING THE COURSE; 3) A WRITTEN TRANSLATION TEST AT THE END OF THE COURSE; 4) A WRITTEN ESSAY IN GERMAN ON A SUBJECT OF THE STUDENT'S CHOICE, TO BE HANDED IN AT LEAST TWO WEEKS BEFORE THE ORAL TEST; 4) AN ORAL TEST CONSISTING OF A CONVERSATION IN GERMAN DURING WHICH THE PREPARED ESSAY AND SOME OF THE TOPICS DEALT WITH DURING THE COURSE ARE DISCUSSED. THE FINAL MARK WILL BE GIVEN BY THE AVERAGE OF THE MARKS OBTAINED, TO WHICH WILL BE ADDED, FOR STUDENTS ATTENDING THE COURSE, THE MARK OF AN ORAL TEST.
