GENERAL OBJECTIVE THE COURSE AIMS AT THE ACQUISITION OF THE STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONING OF ORAL AND WRITTEN TEXTS AS WELL AS THE CHARACTERISTICS OF DIFFERENT TEXT GENRES IN ORDER TO ENHANCE THE TEXTUAL ANALYSIS AND COMPREHENSION SKILLS OF CONTEMPORARY GERMAN ALSO FROM A TRANSLATION PERSPECTIVE. KNOWLEDGE AND COMPREHENSION SKILLS THE STUDENT ACQUIRES KNOWLEDGE OF - BASICS OF GERMAN PRAGMALINGUISTICS AND SOCIOLINGUISTICS; - TECHNIQUES OF LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS; - MAIN TRANSLATION THEORIES AND THE MAIN TRANSLANGUAGING METHODS AND APPROACHES; - WRITTEN AND ORAL LANGUAGE COMPETENCE CORRESPONDING TO LEVEL B2+ OF THE EUROPEAN REFERENCE FRAMEWORK FOR LANGUAGES. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - ANALYSE LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA - PHONETIC, PROSODIC, MORPHOLOGICAL, SYNTACTIC - ALSO THROUGH A CONTRASTIVE APPROACH - CRITICALLY AND INDEPENDENTLY ANALYSE AND INVESTIGATE LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA IN DIFFERENT TYPES OF TEXT AND DISCOURSE; - DEEPEN THE STUDY OF COMPLEX LINGUISTIC PHENOMENA AND PROBLEMS OF TRANSLATION AND REFORMULATION IN DIFFERENT WAYS AND WITH DIFFERENT OBJECTIVES; - AUTONOMOUSLY TRANSLATE DIFFERENT TEXT TYPES. AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - USE ANALYSIS TOOLS TO FORMULATE HYPOTHESES - RECOGNISE LOGICAL CONNECTIONS; - ARGUE ABOUT THE CONTENT AND LANGUAGE OF TEXTS; - COMPARE AND EVALUATE DIFFERENT INTERPRETATIONS AND TRANSLATION APPROACHES. COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO - HAVE WRITTEN AND ORAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS IN PROFESSIONAL AS WELL AS SOCIAL AND ACADEMIC SITUATIONS; - HAVE SKILLS IN IN-DEPTH TEXTUAL ANALYSIS AND TRANSLATION AT AN ADVANCED LEVEL. LEARNING SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE - METHODOLOGICAL SKILLS IN THE LINGUISTIC ANALYSIS OF TEXTS - MASTERY OF REFLECTION AND JUDGEMENT ON UP-TO-DATE CRITICAL AND COGNITIVE TOOLS THAT ENABLE THEM TO CARRY OUT RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF LANGUAGE AND LINGUISTICS OF THE GERMAN-SPEAKING AREA. |

STUDENTS MUST HAVE PASSED THE EXAMINATIONS OF GERMAN LANGUAGE II AND GERMAN LITERATURE II, MUST BE ABLE TO INTERACT IN MOST EVERYDAY SITUATIONS, MUST BE ABLE TO EXCHANGE INFORMATION IN KNOWN CONTEXTS RELATED TO HIS/HER FIELD OF INTEREST, MUST BE ABLE TO INTERACT IN FORMAL SITUATIONS. SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXPRESS OPINIONS ON CULTURAL MATTERS AND UNDERSTAND INSTRUCTIONS OR PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS (ORAL INTERACTION). SHOULD BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND COMPLEX INSTRUCTIONS AND DIRECTIONS OF A CERTAIN LENGTH; UNDERSTAND ANNOUNCEMENTS OF VARIOUS TYPES AND NEW INFORMATION IN DETAIL IN TEXTS DEALING WITH FAMILIAR TOPICS (I.E. KNOWN OR RELATED TO OWN INTERESTS OR FIELD OF STUDY). CAN EASILY UNDERSTAND INFORMATION IN PERSONAL AND FORMAL CORRESPONDENCE (READING COMPREHENSION). DURING THE COURSE OF THE YEAR, THE FUNDAMENTALS OF TEXT LINGUISTICS WILL BE EXPLAINED AND DIFFERENT TEXT TYPOLOGIES WILL BE PRESENTED, WITH EXAMPLES OF ANALYSIS STRATEGIES FOR UNDERSTANDING TEXTS, INCLUDING SPECIALIST AND SECTOR-SPECIFIC TEXTS. AS A RESULT, THE STUDENT SHOULD LEARN TO RECOGNISE THE DIFFERENT TEXT TYPOLOGIES AND SHOULD BE IN POSSESSION OF THE NECESSARY TOOLS FOR ANALYSING AND PROCESSING A WRITTEN TEXT. IN ADDITION, THE FUNDAMENTALS OF PRAGMALINGUISTICS AND SOCIOLINGUISTICS OF GERMAN WILL BE EXPLAINED. FOR A DESCRIPTION OF CONTEMPORARY GERMAN, THE DIFFERENT VARIETIES (NATIONAL, DIAPHASIC AND DIATOPIC), THE DISTRIBUTION OF GERMAN (THE SPREAD OF GERMAN AS A MOTHER TONGUE, AS TWO LANGUAGES AND AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE), AND FINALLY QUESTIONS OF LANGUAGE CONTACT (REGIONAL AND NATIONAL BILINGUALISM) WILL BE CONSIDERED, SO THAT THE STUDENT WILL HAVE TO LEARN TO DISTINGUISH THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATIVE CONTEXTS WITHIN THE GERMAN LINGUISTIC AREA. COURSE TOPICS IN BRIEF: 1) ASPECTS OF TEXTUAL LINGUISTICS OF GERMAN 2) TEXTUAL ANALYSIS AND PRODUCTION 3) ASPECTS OF PRAGMATICS OF GERMAN 4) ANALYSIS OF LANGUAGE USES, REGISTERS AND SECTORIAL LANGUAGES 5) TRANSLATION OF SHORT TEXTS FROM GERMAN INTO ITALIAN. |

STUDENTS WILL BE TESTED DURING THE COURSE OF THE YEAR: TWO INTER-COURSE WRITTEN TESTS, TRANSLATION OF A SHORT TEXT FROM GERMAN INTO ITALIAN, WRITTEN/ORAL TESTS DURING THE COURSE AND A FINAL ORAL EXAM. AT THE END OF THE COURSE, STUDENTS ATTENDING THE COURSE MAY, IF THEY WISH, TAKE A PARTIAL ORAL TEST (REFERAT ON A TOPIC AGREED UPON WITH THE TEACHER). NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS OF THE CDS IN FOREIGN LANGUAGES AND CULTURES (L-11) WILL TAKE A FINAL WRITTEN AND ORAL EXAM. FOR NON-ATTENDING STUDENTS THE EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF A FULL WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL TEST. THE WRITTEN EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF ASSIGNMENTS RELATED TO THE PROGRAMME OF THE COURSE AND TO THE PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES AND IS STRUCTURED AS FOLLOWS: 1. GRAMMAR TEST; 2. READING; 3. WRITTEN PRODUCTION; 4. TRANSLATION (FROM GERMAN INTO ITALIAN). THE ORAL EXAMINATION CAN ONLY BE TAKEN AFTER THE WRITTEN LANGUAGE TEST HAS BEEN PASSED. THE FINAL MARK, WHICH IS BASED ON THE VERIFICATION OF THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE COURSE CONTENTS AND ON THE ASSESSMENT OF LANGUAGE SKILLS THROUGH THE WRITTEN TEST AND THE LANGUAGE INTERVIEW, WILL BE REPRESENTED BY THE AVERAGE OF THE MARKS OBTAINED IN EACH PART OF THE EXAMINATION. |
