Objectives
THE COURS SUGGEST STUDYNG IN DEPTH SOME PROBLEMS OF THE HISTORY OF LATIN WRITING WITH PURPOSE TO FURNISH APPROPRIATE TOOLS TO PHILOLOGICAL STUDY OF MANUSCRIPT BOOKS AND TEXTS ESPECIALLY OF THE ROMAN AGE, THE LATE ROMAN AGE AND OF THE AGES CONNECTED WITH CLASSICAL STUDIES.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN HANDWRITINGS AND OF THE WRITERS OF THE MANUSCRIPTS AND DOCUMENTS; ABILITY TO INTERPRET AND EXAMINE CRITICALLY THE TYPOLOGY AND THE FUNCTION OF HANDBOOKS CONCERNING THE PERIODS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT.
APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
ABILITY TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE IN THE STUDY OF THE MANUSCRIPT TRADITION OF CLASSICAL AUTHORS, EXEGETIC ABILITY AND COMPREHENSION IN THE STUDY OF THE VARIOUS PHASES OF THE TRANSMISSION OF TEXTS.
THE IN-DEPTH COMPETENCE OBTAINED AT THE END OF THE COURSE AND THE ACQUISITION OF THE SPECIFIC PALEOGRAPHIC TOOLS COULD ALSO BE APPLIED BOTH IN THE FIELD OF THE CONSERVATION OF HANDBOOK HERITAGE AND IN THE COMPLETION OF THE TRAINING COURSE REGARDING THE TEACHING OF CLASSICAL LANGUAGES.

WRITINGS AND BOOKS BETWEEN CLASSICAL HERITAGE AND LATE ROMAN AGE. CHARLE LE GROSS AND THE NEW COMMON WRITING. THE "LITTERA MODERNA". THE BOOK OF THE THIRTEENTH AND THE FOURTTEENTH CENTURIES. HUMANISTIC BOOK AND WRITINGS OF THE FIFTEENTH CENTURY IN ITALY.
Teaching Methods
EVERY LECTURE CONSISTS OF A THEORY PART – WITH PURPOSE TO THE HISTORICAL FRAME OF GRAPHIC PHENOMENONS – AND OF A PRATICAL PART WITH A DESCRIPTION OF REPRODUCTIONS OF BOOK SCRIPTS. THE STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO REFLECT ABOUT FAC-SIMILE REPRODUCTIONS AND EVOLUTIONARY PROCEEDINGS. EXERCISES ABOUT THE DESCRIPTION OF MANUSCRIPTS AND THE MAIN REFERENCE WORKS ON TRADITIONAL AND DIGITAL SUPPORT USED; GUIDED VISITS TO LIBRARIES WHERE PARTICIPANTS WILL VIEW ORIGINAL MANUSCRIPTS AND GAIN PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE IN APPLYING THEMES TO CONCRETE EXAMPLES.
Verification of learning
THE TRADITIONAL ORAL EXAM AT THE END OF THE COURS CHECKS THE ABILITY OF THE STUDENT TO FRAME THE REACHED KNOWLEDGE. A FIRST AND TEMPORARY CHECK TAKES PLACE DURING LECTURES, OF WHICH I RECOMMEND TO ATTEND. THE GENERAL METHODS OF EVALUATION WILL INCLUDE AN ATTENTIVE CONSIDERATION OF THE LEARNING SKILLS (READING OF FACSIMILIES AND PRESENTING THE MAIN THEMES THAT HAVE BEEN DEALT WITH, THE USE OF TECHNICAL LANGUAGE AT A GOOD LEVEL OF CONFIDENCE AND ALSO THE ABILITY TO PLACE THE GRAPHIC PHENOMENON IN THE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXT.
