Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS AT PROVIDING TO THE STUDENTS OF THE MASTER DEGREE IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING THEORETICAL TOOLS FOCUSING ON VIBRATION PHENOMENA IN MECHANICAL DEVICES, AUTOMOTIVE ENVIRONMENT, INDUSTRIAL PLANTS, AUTOMATIC SYSTEMS. THE COURSE CONTENTS COVER VIBRATIONS OF DISCRETE OR LUMPED SYSTEMS WITH INERTIA, FLEXIBILITY AND DAMPING IDENTIFIED AS SEPARATE ENTITIES, AS WELL AS CONTINUOUS SYSTEMS WHERE INERTIA ELEMENT POSSESSES OWN FLEXIBILITY AND DAMPING PROPERTIES. THE COURSE WILL DEAL WITH COMMON VIBRATIONAL BEHAVIOUR OF INDUSTRIAL ENVIRONMENT CONCERNING ROTATING MACHINERY, MACHINE TOOLS, RECIPROCATING ENGINES, ETC. AS COMMON ITEMS OF THE DEGREE PROGRAM, STUDIED THROUGH LINEAR MODELING, SMALL OSCILLATIONS, PERIODIC LOADING, AND ARBITRARY EXCITATION.
"MECHANICAL VIBRATIONS" ALSO COVERS LAPLACE'S TRANSFORM AND TRANSFER FUNCTION AS USUAL LANGUAGE OF CONTROL SYSTEMS AREA, FREQUENCY RESPONSE FUNCTION AND ITS CHARACTERISTIC REPRESENTATIONS FOR STEADY-STATE RESPONSE, AND LAGRANGE'S FORMULATION OF THE MOTION EQUATIONS AS WELL.
Prerequisites
COMMON SKILLS OF THE B.SC. DEGREE IN INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING AREA IN THE FOLLOWING FIELDS: RATIONAL MECHANICS, DYNAMICS OF MACHINES, DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS AND LINEAR ALGEBRA.
