THE COURSE AIMS AT PROVIDING TO THE STUDENTS OF THE MASTER DEGREE IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING THEORETICAL TOOLS FOCUSING ON VIBRATION PHENOMENA IN MECHANICAL DEVICES, AUTOMOTIVE ENVIRONMENT, INDUSTRIAL PLANTS, AUTOMATIC SYSTEMS. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING: THE COURSE CONTENTS COVER VIBRATIONS OF DISCRETE OR LUMPED SYSTEMS WITH INERTIA, FLEXIBILITY AND DAMPING IDENTIFIED AS SEPARATE ENTITIES, AS WELL AS CONTINUOUS SYSTEMS WHERE INERTIA ELEMENT POSSESSES OWN FLEXIBILITY AND DAMPING PROPERTIES. ABOUT THE ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING, THE COURSE WILL DEAL WITH COMMON VIBRATIONAL BEHAVIOUR OF INDUSTRIAL ENVIRONMENT CONCERNING ROTATING MACHINERY, MACHINE TOOLS, RECIPROCATING ENGINES, ETC. AS COMMON ITEMS OF THE DEGREE PROGRAM, STUDIED THROUGH LINEAR MODELING, SMALL OSCILLATIONS, PERIODIC LOADING, AND ARBITRARY EXCITATION. "MECHANICAL VIBRATIONS" ALSO COVERS LAPLACE'S TRANSFORM AND TRANSFER FUNCTION AS USUAL LANGUAGE OF CONTROL SYSTEMS AREA, FREQUENCY RESPONSE FUNCTION AND ITS CHARACTERISTIC REPRESENTATIONS FOR STEADY-STATE RESPONSE, AND LAGRANGE'S FORMULATION OF THE MOTION EQUATIONS AS WELL. AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT: THE COURSE "MECHANICAL VIBRATIONS" IS ALSO DESIGNED TO STIMULATE AUTONOMOUS JUDGEMENT SKILL FOR COMPARING ENGINEERING SOLUTIONS IN THE FRAMEWORK OF DESIGN TECHNIQUES THROUGH SOLID AND SHARED CRITERIA. COMMUNICATIVE SKILLS: ACCORDING TO THE EXAMINATION METHOD EXPLAINED BELOW, STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO ILLUSTRATE A PROBLEM RELATED TO VIBRATIONS AND DISCUSS THE MATHEMATICAL MODELLING UNDER THE PROPER ASSUMPTIONS AND LIMITATIONS. LEARNING ABILITY: BE ABLE TO APPLY AND UPDATE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE IN CONTEXTS DIFFERENT FROM THOSE PRESENTED AT CLASSES. |
