Objectives
GENERAL OBJECTIVE
THE COURSE AIMS TO COMPLETE THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE IN INORGANIC CHEMISTRY, ALREADY UNDERTAKEN WITH THE INORGANIC CHEMISTRY I COURSE, FORNISHING INFORMATION RELATING TO THE PROPERTIES AND REACTIVITY OF THE ELEMENTS OF THE D BLOCK AND THE MAIN CLASSES OF COORDINATION COMPOUNDS AND ORGANOMETALLICS THAT THESE FORM.
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL KNOW:
– THE NATURE OF THE COORDINATIVE BOND AND THE MAIN CLASSES OF LIGANDS;
-THE NOMENCLATURE OF COORDINATION COMPOUNDS;
- GEOMETRIES AND ISOMERS IN COORDINATION COMPOUNDS;
-THE PERIODIC TRENDS WITHIN BLOCK D;
- THE MAIN ORGANOMETALLIC COMPOUNDS;
- THE MAIN SYNTHETIC METHODS FOR INORGANIC COMPOUNDS.
ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- DEFINE THE STABILITY OF A COORDINATION COMPOUND AND ITS GEOMETRY;
- INTERPRET THE PERIODIC TRENDS OF THE ELEMENTS OF BLOCK D;
-EVALUATE THE DIFFERENT SYNTHETIC STRATEGIES FOR THE PREPARATION OF COMPOUNDS CONTAINING COVALENT, IONIC AND/OR COORDINATIVE BONDS;
- DRAW UP AN EXPERIMENTAL NOTEBOOK IN WHICH THE PROCEDURES CARRIED OUT IN THE LABORATORY AND THE RESULTS OBTAINED ARE PRECISELY DESCRIBED;
-DRAW UP A SCIENTIFIC REPORT IN WHICH THE RESULTS OBTAINED ARE REPORTED AND COMMENTED ON.
AUTONOMY OF JUDGEMENT
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-PREDICT RELATIVE STABILITY WITHIN CLASSES OF COMPOUNDS;
- CRITICALLY JUDGE THE EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS LINKED TO LABORATORY ACTIVITIES.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-USE CORRECT SCIENTIFIC-DISCIPLINARY LANGUAGE FOR THE NOMENCLATURE OF INORGANIC COMPOUNDS AND COORDINATION COMPLEXES;
- USE BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS TO UPDATE YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF INORGANIC AND METAL-ORGANIC CHEMISTRY.
LEARNING ABILITY
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
- USE TRADITIONAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC TOOLS AND THE MAIN SCIENTIFIC DATABASES.
- CARRY OUT RESEARCH ACTIVITIES AND ACQUIRE AUTONOMY IN THE COLLECTION OF EXPERIMENTAL DATA.
- DEVELOP THE SKILLS NECESSARY TO UNDERTAKE MORE ADVANCED STUDIES.
Prerequisites
PREREQUISITES: INORGANIC CHEMISTRY I.

Teaching Methods
52 HOURS OF LESSONS:

LESSONS (5 CFU, 40 HOURS).
LABORATORY (1 CFU, 12 HOURS).

THE ATTENDANCE OF THEORETICAL LESSONS IS NOT MANDATORY BUT STRONGLY SUGGESTED.
LAB ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. IT IS POSSIBLE TO AFFORD THE EXAM ONLY IF THE STUDENT ATTENDS 75% OF LABORATORY HOURS. THE PRESENCE OF STUDENTS IN LAB IS CONFIRMED BY ROLL CALL MADE BY THE PROFESSOR.

Verification of learning
THE EXAM AIMS TO EVALUATED THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE STUDENT ABOUT THE COORDINATIVE BOND THEORIES AND THE PROPERTIES AND REACTIVITY OF TRANSITION METALS AND THEIR INORGANIC, COORDINATIVE AND METALLORGANIC COMPOUNDS.
THE OBJECTIVES OF LEARNING ARE VERIFIED BY AN ORAL EXAMINATION THAT CONSISTS OF AN INTERVIEW AND DISCUSSION ON THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL CONTENT OF THE COURSE SYLLABUS AND ON THE REPORTS PREPARED BY THE STUDENT ON THE LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS.
FOR THE PURPOSES OF EVALUATION THE FOLLOWING ASPECTS WILL BE TAKEN IN ACCOUNT:
-THE DEGREE OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE TEACHING TOPICS
- THE CLARITY OF THE WRITTEN OR ORAL EXPOSITION
-THE LOGICAL-DEDUCTIVE MATURITY OF THE STUDENT
