Objectives
THE COURSE FOCUSES ON SOCIOLOGICAL THEORIES IN THE FIELD OF GENDER AND SEXUALITY STUDIES, WITH PARTICULAR ATTENTION TO HOW SOCIAL AND CULTURAL CHANGES IMPACT ON EXPERIENCES OF IDENTITY, ON THE SOCIAL ROLES PLAYED IN CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY, AND ON THE FACTORS GENERATING SOCIAL INEQUALITIES

EXPECTED LEARNING OUTCOMES KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND: TO KNOW THE FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS OF SOCIOLOGICAL THEORIES THAT ANALYSE AND INVESTIGATE THE PRODUCTION OF GENDER STEREOTYPES AND PREJUDICES, THE FACTORS GIVING RISE TO SOCIAL INEQUALITIES, AS WELL AS THE ABILITY TO KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH EMERGING PROBLEMS RELATED TO GENDER AND SEXUAL IDENTITIES IN BOTH EDUCATIONAL AND EXTRA-EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS.

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
TO BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND SOCIAL PHENOMENA AND ISSUES RELATED TO THE EXPERIENCE AND PERCEPTION OF THE CONCEPT OF GENDER AND CHANGE IN CONTEMPORARY WESTERN SOCIETY.

THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE AN OVERVIEW OF THE CONSTRUCTS OF GENDER AND SEXUALITY AS KEY DIMENSIONS OF PROCESSES OF INEQUALITY AND SOCIAL EXCLUSION, ENABLING FUTURE EXPERTS IN PEDAGOGICAL SCIENCES TO BE ABLE TO REFLEXIVELY DEAL WITH ALL THOSE SITUATIONS THAT UNDERMINE THE PROCESSES OF INCLUSION OF PEOPLE WITH ''NON-HETERONORMATIVE'' GENDER AND SEXUAL IDENTITIES IN THE EDUCATIONAL AND EXTRA-EDUCATIONAL CONTEXTS OF PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SOCIALISATION.
THE FIRST PART OF THE COURSE DEALS WITH THE MAIN SOCIOLOGICAL THEORISATIONS ON GENDER, WITH A PARTICULAR FOCUS ON THE INNOVATIONS INTRODUCED BY INTERSECTIONAL APPROACHES, I.E. THE NEED TO BE ABLE TO GRASP THE LINKS BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT FACTORS OF OPPRESSION LINKED TO SEX, GENDER, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, ETHNICITY, ETC. AMONG THE PROCESSES EXAMINED, PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE WILL BE GIVEN TO THE SOCIAL, LEGAL AND CULTURAL RECOGNITION OF NEW GENDER AND SEXUAL IDENTITY CONFIGURATIONS, WITH A SPECIFIC FOCUS ON THE NEEDS EXPRESSED BY THE NEW GENERATIONS.

- GENDER INEQUALITIES FROM AN INTERSECTIONAL PERSPECTIVE
- GENDER AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY POLICIES
- SOCIOLOGICAL RESEARCH ON GENDER AND SEXUALITY: EPISTEMOLOGICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL ASPECTS AND RESEARCH TOOLS

IN THE SECOND PART, SPECIFIC IN-DEPTH STUDIES WILL BE PROPOSED, IN THE LIGHT OF THE INTERESTS EXPRESSED BY THE STUDENTS IN THE CLASSROOM AND THEIR PARTICIPATION IN SEMINARS CONDUCTED BY COLLEAGUES/EXPERTS. THEORETICAL AND/OR EMPIRICAL WORK MAY ALSO BE PROPOSED AS A WAY OF PUTTING INTO PRACTICE, ON SPECIFIC CASES, WHAT HAS BEEN LEARNT IN THE CLASSROOM.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE ENTAILS 36 HOURS OF TEACHING, DIVIDED INTO LECTURES AND TUTORIALS. THE LATTER WILL FOCUS ON:
- A MORE DETAILED ANALYSIS OF THE TOPICS ADDRESSED DURING THE LECTURES, THROUGH CASE STUDIES;
-SEMINARS DURING WHICH STUDENTS CAN WORK ON THEIR SMALL-SCALE RESEARCH PROJECTS IN SMALL GROUPS.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM INCLUDES AN ORAL TEST ON THE COURSE CONTENTS. THE FINAL EVALUATION WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT NOT ONLY THE STUDENT'S KNOWLEGE OF THE SUBJECT BUT ALSO HER ABILITY TO CRITICALLY APPLY THE CONCEPTS STUDIED FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A RESEARCH PATH. TESTS ON SPECIFIC PARTS OF THE PROGRAM MAY ALSO BE SCHEDULED DURING THE COURSE FOR ATTENDING STUDENTS ONLY.
