Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE BASIC TOOLS FOR READING AND INTERPRETATION OF EPIGRAPHIC ETRUSCAN DOCUMENTS. THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO CLASSIFY INSCRIPTIONS, IDENTIFYING GEOGRAPHICAL, CHRONOLOGICAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXTS. HE WILL ALSO PROVIDE APPROPRIATE EXPLANATIONS DURING VISITS TO EXCAVATIONS AND MUSEUMS.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
IN MORE DETAIL, THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE ON:
- ALPHABETS AND TYPES OF ETRUSCAN WRITING.
- ETRUSCAN LANGUAGE
- CONTENT OF THE ETRUSCAN EPIGRAPHS;
- HISTORICAL AND SOCIAL CONTEXT CONNECTED TO EPIGRAPHIC PRACTICE

ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THE TOOLS PRESENTED IN THE COURSE WILL ALLOW THE STUDENT TO:
- READ AND TRANSLATE ETRUSCAN EPIGRAPHS
- DETERMINE THE CHRONOLOGY AND PROVENANCE OF THE EPIGRAPHS

TRANSVERSAL SKILLS
THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE THE ABILITY TO DETERMINE THE HISTORICAL AND SOCIAL CONTEXT CONNECTED TO THE EPIGRAPHS.

THE COURSE INTRODUCES THE STUDY OF ETRUSCAN LANGUAGE THROUGH READING AND DISCUSSION OF EPIGRAPHIC DOCUMENTS OF VARIOUS TEXTUAL TIPOLOGIES.THE FIRST PART EXAMINES THE ALPHABET (4 HOURS), THE WRITING (6 HOURS) AND LANGUAGE (6 HOURS); THE SECOND IS DEVOTED TO READING, COMMENTING TEXTS AND HISTORICAL CONTEXT OF THE EPIGRAPHS (14 HOURS).
Teaching Methods
WHOLE CLASS TEACHING. THE TOPICS CONCERNING THE ETRUSCAN LANGUAGE AND WRITING WILL BE WILL BE PRESENTED THROUGH THE READING AND ANALYSIS OF THE EPIGRAPHS.
Verification of learning
STUDENT PREPARATION STUDENT IS EVALUATED BY MEANS OF ORAL EXAM AT THE END OF THE COURSE.
THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ACQUIRED THE BASICS OF ETRUSCAN LANGUAGE AND EPIGRAPHY: HE MUST REVEAL ABILITY TO READ AND TRANSLATE THE EPIGRAPHIC TEXTS INDICATED IN THE PROGRAM, ENHANCING THE WRITING SYSTEM AND SUPPORTS, AND TO FRAME THEM IN THE THE HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE ETRUSCAN COMMUNITIES.
WILL BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT:
- THE QUALITY OF THE EXPOSURE, IN TERMS OF USE OF APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE
- THE SKILL OF TRANSVERSAL CORRELATION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND, WHERE POSSIBLE, WITH OTHER DISCIPLINES
- PROVEN AUTONOMY OF JUDGMENT.
