Objectives
THE COURSE IS AIMED AT THE ACQUISITION OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE MAIN PHYSICS MODELS AND OF THE ASSUMPTIONS ON WHICH THEY ARE BASED

AT THE END OF THE COURSE THE STUDENT WILL KNOW:
-THE MAIN THEORETICAL MODELS OF CLASSICAL PHYSICS, THE ASSUMPTIONS ON WHICH THEY ARE BASED AND THE ABILITY TO APPLY THESE MODELS TO REAL CASES,
-BASIC TOOLS FOR MATHEMATICAL AND GEOMETRY ANALYSIS,
- APPLICATION MODELS BASED ON MATHEMATICAL STRUCTURES.

THE STUDENT, APPLYING THE ACQUIRED SKILLS, WILL BE ABLE TO
- FORMULATE MATHEMATICAL MODELS OF NATURAL PHENOMENA,
- UNDERSTAND THE ASSUMPTIONS OF WHICH THE MODELS ARE BASED, AND TO APPLY THE EXPERIMENTAL ACTIVITY,
- SOLVE SIMPLE PROBLEMS AND EXERCISES APPLYING THE ACQUIRED THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE.

THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD. PHYSICAL QUANTITIES AND SYSTEMS UNIT OF MEASURE. ANALYSIS OF EXPERIMENTAL ERRORS. VECTOR CALCULUS. (6 HOURS).
VELOCITY AND ACCELERATION. LINEAR AND BIDIMENSIONAL MOTION. VARIED MOTION (8 HOURS).
PRINCIPLES OF DYNAMICS. GRAVITATIONAL FORCE AND WEIGHT. ELESTIC FORCE. CONSTRAINTS AND FRICTION. WORK. MECHANICAL ENERGY AND ITS CONSERVATION. MOMENTUM AND ITS CONSERVATION. CENTER OF MASS. RIGID BODY DYNAMICS. (20 HOURS).
LIQUIDS AND THEIR PROPERTIES. PRESSURE. LAW OF STEVINO. PRINCIPLE OF ARCHIMEDE, PRINCIPLE OF PASCAL. IDEAL FLUID: EQUATION OF CONTINUITY AND BERNOULII'S EQUATION. REAL FLUIDS. VISCOSITY. SUPERFICIAL PHENOMENA. SURFACE TENSION, CONTACT ANGLE AND CAPILLARY PHENOMENA. (20 HOURS).
TEMPERATURE AND HEAT. MECHANISMS OF HEAT TRANSFER. IDEAL GAS. PRINCIPLES OF THERMODYNAMICS. THERMAL MACHINES, EFFICIENCY, ENTROPY. (14 HOURS)
PRINCIPLES OF ELECTROMAGNETISM. (4 HOURS)
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING IS CARRIED OUT THROUGH THEORIC LECTURES (80%) AND EXERCISES (20%). DURING THE THEORIC LECTURES, GENERAL ISSUES RELATED TO THE TEACHING CONTENT ARE DISCUSSED. THE EXERCISES ARE CARRIED OUT BY THE LECTURER WITH THE DIRECT INVOLVEMENT OF THE STUDENTS AND ARE AIMED AT SEEING THE BASIC AND ADVANCED CONCEPTS APPLIED.
ATTENDANCE AT THE COURSE IS MANDATORY AND CLASSROOM PRESENCE WILL BE VIA THE EASYBADGE SYSTEM AVAILABLE AT THE UNIVERSITY.
Verification of learning
THE EXAMINATION ARE INTENDED TO VERIFY THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE AIMS OF TEACHING.

THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES OF THE TEACHING IS CERTIFIED BY EXCEEDING AN EXAMINATION (MINIMUM 18/30) THAT IT HAVE TO BE OCCURRED IN THE ROUNDS ESTABLISHED BY THE CALENDAR, COMPOSED BY:
1) A WRITTEN TEST, LASTING TWO HOURS, IS CONSTITUTED BY 12 EXERCISES SO DIVIDED:
- 4 MATHEMATICAL QUESTIONS (VECTOR CALCULATION, ANALYTIC GEOMETRY, FUNCTIONS, INTEGRAL CALCULATION).
- 8 PHYSICAL QUESTIONS (KINEMATICS, DYNAMICS, FLUID-DYNAMIC AND THERMODYNAMIC).
THE STUDENT WILL BE ADMITTED TO THE ORAL EXAMINATION IF HE HAS REPORTED A SCORE AT LEAST EQUAL TO 18/30 IN THE WRITTEN TEST. DURING THE WRITTEN TESTING, USE OF THE SCIENTIFIC CALCULATOR IS ADMITTED ONLY.
2) AN ORAL EXAMINATION CONCERNING THE PHYSICS UNIT (AT LEAST FOUR QUESTIONS), ABOUT 15/20 MINUTES.
THE FINAL VOTE IS DEFINED CONSIDERING THE SCORE ACHIEVED AT THE WRITTEN TEST AND THE EVALUATION OBTAINED AT THE ORAL EXAM.
AN ADDITIONAL “CUM LADE” MAY BE ATTRIBUTED TO STUDENTS WITH THE MAXIMUM SCORE (30/30) WHO HAVE DEMONSTRATED AUTONOMY AND ABILITY TO FACE MATHEMATICAL AND PHYSICAL PROBLEMS.
