Objectives
THE COURSE AIMS TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY TOOLS FOR THE ANALYSIS AND DIMENSIONING OF CIRCUITS OF MEDIUM COMPLEXITY USED IN LINEAR APPLICATIONS. THE TEACHING ACTIVITY CONSISTS OF NUMERICAL EXERCISES AND PRACTICAL LABORATORY WORK, TO GIVE THE TOOLS TO THE ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF SIMPLE ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT BOARDS.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
THE STUDENT WILL ANALYZE:
-THE DC AND AC OPERATIONS OF ELEMENTARY AMPLIFIERS MADE BY BJT AND MOSFET, DISCRETE AND INTEGRATED;
-TRANSFER FUNCTION IN LAPLACE AND TIME DOMAINS OF AMPLIFIERSWITH RC NETWORK AND CANONICAL INPUT SIGNALS, USING HEURISTIC AND ANALYTIC METHODS;
-CUT-OFF FREQUENCY AND BANDWIDTH OF A GENERIC CIRCUIT;
-THE EFFECTS OF THE FEEDBACK IN ELECTRONICS CIRCUITS AND THEIR STABILITY;
-THE PERFORMANCES OF INTEGRATED CIRCUITS LIKE DIFFERENTIAL COUPLE AMPLIFIER AND CURRENT-MIRROR CIRCUITS;
-THE INTERNAL LAYOUT AND THE NO-IDEAL CHARACTERISTICS OF A REAL OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIER AND THE FUNDAMENTAL CIRCUITS MADE BY OP-AMP IN POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE FEEDBACK;

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:
-ANALYZE AND EXPLAIN THE ELECTRICAL OPERATIONS AND PERFORMANCE OF ACTIVE CIRCUITS, DISCRETE AND INTEGRATED;
-DESIGN AND REALIZATION ON BREADBOARD OF LINEAR AMPLIFIERS AND FEEDBACK CIRCUITS RESPECTING WELL-DEFINED SPECIFICATIONS;

MAKING JUDGEMENTS:
THE STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO:
-USE A DATASHEET OF DEVICES TO EXTRACT THEIR PERFORMANCES;
-CHOSE THE METHODS TO ANALYZE AND DESIGN MEDIUM COMPLEX CIRCUITS;
-CONSIDER THE LIMITS FOR AN “IN SAFETY” OPERATION OF DEVICES;
-MIX PRACTICE AND ANALYTICAL MODELS TO DESIGN CIRCUITS.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
A TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC SPEAKING IS REQUIRED DURING ORAL AND WRITTEN EXAMS AND DURING THE LABORATORY ACTIVITIES.
LEARNING SKILLS:
TO GIVE THE CAPABILITY TO ANALYZE THE EFFECTS OF THE INTEGRATION OF DEVICES ON THE PERFORMANCE OF CIRCUITS, THE STUDENT WILL BE AWARE OF THE CONTINUE EVOLUTION OF THE ELECTRONICS AND OF THE NECESSITY OF A CONTINUUM AND AUTONOMOUS LEARNING.
Prerequisites
FOR THE SUCCESSFUL ACHIEVEMENT OF OBJECTIVES THE STUDENT MUST SATISFY THE FOLLOWING PREREQUISITES:
- BASIC MATHEMATICAL KNOWLEDGE, ESPECIALLY, OF SOLVING METHODS OF DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS AND APPLYING THE LAPLACE TRANSFORM;
- KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING;
- KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUNDAMENTALS OF AUTOMATIC CONTROL;

PREPARATORY EXAMS ARE: ELETTROTECNICA II, FONDAMENTI DI CONTROLLI AUTOMATICI, FONDAMENTI DI ELETTRONICA.

Teaching Methods
THE LECTURES ARE DIVIDED AS FOLLOWS:
- THEORETICAL LECTURES (HOURS 60/ CFU 6);
- CLASSROOM EXERCISES (HOURS 21/ CFU 2.1): SOLUTIONS OF NUMERICAL EXERCISES;
- LABORATORIES EXERCISES (HOURS 9/ CFU 0.9): ACTIVITIES IN GROUP OF 2-3 STUDENTS WITH THE AIM TO DESIGN AND STUDY AN ANALOG CIRCUITS.

THE LENGUAGE OF THE LECTURES IS THE ITALIAN.
Verification of learning
VERIFICATION OF LEARNING IS BASED ON A WRITTEN TEST AND AN ORAL TEST. THE AIM IS TO VERIFY THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE MAIN CONCEPTS PRESENTED IN THE TEACHING, TO KNOW HOW TO APPLY THE METHODS OF ANALYSIS AND TO EXPOSE THEM WITH A CRITICAL SPIRIT AND WITH MASTERY OF TECHNICAL-SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE. DURING THE COURSE, PARTIAL WRITTEN EXONERATIVE TESTS ARE SCHEDULED.

THE FINAL GRADE IS EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS (THE MINIMUM GRADE CORRESPONDS TO "18" AND THE MAXIMUM TO "30 E LODE") AND WILL BE COMPOSED ON THE RESULTS DERIVING FROM THE TWO TESTS. IN PARTICULAR, THE VOTES "GOOD, FAIR AND SUFFICIENT" ALLOW ACCESS TO THE ORAL TEST, THE "TOTALLY INSUFFICIENT" VOTE DOES NOT ALLOW ADMISSION, WHILE THE "INSUFFICIENT" ASSESSMENT ALLOWS YOU TO TAKE THE ORAL TEST WITH THE RESTRICTION OF NOT BEING ABLE TO ACHIEVE A FINAL MARK HIGHER THAN 20/30. "30 E LODE" MAY BE GIVEN IN THE CASE OF A WRITTEN EXAM AT LEAST "DISCREET" AND AN ORAL EXAM THAT FULLY SATISFIES THE EVALUATION CRITERIA.

THE WRITTEN TEST HAS AN AVERAGE INDICATIVE DURATION OF 3 HOURS AND CONSISTS OF PERFORMING EXERCISES. THE AIM IS TO: 1) VERIFY THE LEARNING OF THE METHODS OF SOLVING THE CIRCUITS TREATED IN THE HOURS OF THEORY; 2) VERIFY THE ABILITY TO SUMMARIZE AND PRESENT THE RESOLUTION. SOME EXAMPLES OF QUESTIONS PROPOSED IN THE EXERCISES CAN BE: CALCULATION OF THE FUNCTION OF TRANSFER OF THE GAIN (VOLTAGE, CURRENT, TRANS-IMPEDANCE OR TRANS-CONDUCTANCE) OF A SINGLE LOOP MULTI-STAGE AMPLIFIER WITH THE METHODS OF ANALYSIS OF RETROACTIVE CIRCUITS OR OF CIRCUITS WITH OPERATIONAL AMPLIFIERS, CALCULATION OF THE DOMINANT POLES AND OF THE ZEROS OF AN AMPLIFIER AND FREQUENCY ANALYSIS, APPLICATION OF THE LOOP-GAIN ANALYSIS METHOD OF A SINGLE LOOP MULTI-STAGE AMPLIFIER. THE COPY OF THE WRITTEN PAPER IS DELIVERED WITH THE ERRORS MARKED AND ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR SOLUTIONS.

THE ORAL EXAM IS OF AN AVERAGE INDICATIVE DURATION OF 50 MINUTES AND REQUIRES THE STUDY OF A CIRCUIT LOOKING AT THE THEORETICAL ASPECTS EXPLAINED IN CLASS. IT IS AIMED AT: 1) VERIFYING THE LEARNING OF THE TOPICS COVERED IN THE THEORETICAL HOURS; 2) VERIFY THE ABILITY TO PRESENT THE TOPICS ADDRESSED; 3) VERIFY THE MASTERY AND THE CRITICAL SPIRIT IN PROPOSING THE SOLUTION TO THE REQUESTED PROBLEM.
