THE COURSE AIMS AT ALLOWING STUDENTS TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE AND BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE NORMATIVE AND PRACTICE CONCERNING THE INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS (AT UNIVERSAL LEVEL AND, ESPECIALLY, AT REGIONAL LEVEL, WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO THE SYSTEM OF PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE). KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THIS COURSE INTENDS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THOSE CONCEPTUAL AND METHODOLOGICAL TOOLS NECESSARY TO CORRECTLY INTERPRET AND APPLY THE NORMATIVE AND THE PRACTICE CONCERNING THE INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE EXERCISE OF LEGAL PROFESSIONS AND OF ANY OTHER PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY IN ITALY AND ABROAD. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THE COURSE AIMS AT ACHIEVING THE FOLLOWING LEARNING OUTCOMES AND APPLICATIVE CAPABILITIES: GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE NORMATIVE AND THE PRACTICE CONCERNING THE INTERNATIONAL SAFEGUARDING OF HUMAN RIGHTS; ABILITY TO EXAMINE, WITH FULL AWARENESS, THE LEGAL PROBLEMS ARISING IN THE CONTEXT OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND THE SOLUTIONS PROVIDED BY INTERNATIONAL NORMS ON HUMAN RIGHTS; ACQUISITION OF ANALYTICAL SKILLS NECESSARY TO RESOLVE COMPLEX PROBLEMS REGARDING THE INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS ARISING IN NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL WORK CONTEXTS. |

THE TEACHING ACTIVITY DEALS WITH THE NORMATIVE AND THE PRACTICE CONCERNING THE INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS. THE TEACHING ACTIVITY ANALYZES THE FOLLOWING TOPICS: 1. THE EUROPEAN SYSTEM AND THE INTERNATIONAL MOVEMENT FOR THE RECOGNITION OF HUMAN RIGHTS, IN PARTICULAR: THE UNITED NATIONS SYSTEM; THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE AND THE EUROPEAN CONVENTION FOR THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS AND FUNDAMENTAL FREEDOMS; THE EUROPEAN UNION AND THE PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS; OTHER REGIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS PROTECTION SYSTEMS; 2. THE CATALOGUE OF RIGHTS AND FREEDOMS GUARANTEED BY THE EUROPEAN CONVENTION ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND ITS ADDITIONAL PROTOCOLS; 3. THE INTEGRATED PROTECTION OF RIGHTS IN THE EUROPEAN LEGAL AND JUDICIAL AREA AND THE PROCESS OF ACCESSION OF THE EUROPEAN UNION TO THE ECHR; 4. THE RANK OF THE ECHR RULES IN THE ITALIAN LEGAL SYSTEM; 5. THE EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS; 6. RECOURSES TO THE EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS: PROCEDURE AND EXECUTION OF THE JUDGMENTS; 7. PROTOCOLS NO. 15 AND NO. 16 TO THE ECHR: SUBSIDIARITY, MARGIN OF APPRECIATION OF STATES AND REQUEST FOR ADVISORY OPINIONS TO THE STRASBOURG COURT; 8. THE ACTIVITY OF THE EUROPEAN COURT IN 2021 WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO ITALY; 9. JURISPRUDENTIAL CASES OF THE EUROPEAN COURT AND EFFECTS IN THE ITALIAN LEGAL SYSTEM. |

THE TEACHING ACTIVITY CONSISTS OF 60 HOURS LESSONS AND IS STRUCTURED IN THEORETICAL LESSONS ON GENERAL PROFILES OF THE MATTER AS WELL AS IN SEMINARS AND PRACTICAL LESSONS CONCERNING THE EXAMINATION OF JUDICIAL DECISIONS AND PRACTICAL CASES. STUDENTS ARE PROVIDED WITH THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION: PUBLICATIONS, OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS AND NORMATIVE AND JUDICIAL ACTS. THE TEACHING ACTIVITY IS STRUCTURED FOR STUDENTS ATTENDING REGULARLY. STUDENTS WHO CANNOT ATTEND REGULARLY THE LESSONS CAN CONTACT THE PROFESSOR FOR ANY INFORMATION OR INTEGRATIVE EXPLANATION. |

THE METHODS VERIFYING THE STUDENTS LEARNING CONSIST IN THE ASSESSMENT, CARRIED OUT DURING LESSONS, SEMINARS AND PRACTICAL LESSONS, OF THE GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE MATTER. TO THIS END, THROUGH INTERACTIVE AND ASSIDUOUS DEBATES WITH STUDENTS, THEY ARE ESTABLISHED THE DEVELOPMENT AND IMPROVEMENT OF A SERIES OF KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: ABILITY TO HAVE AN HISTORICAL AND LEGAL OVERVIEW OF INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION OF HUMAN RIGHTS; ABILITY TO UNDERSTAND, INTERPRET AND APPLY THE MAIN PROFILES OF INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS LAW IN THE EXERCISE OF LEGAL PROFESSIONS AND OF ANY OTHER PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY IN ITALY AND ABROAD; ABILITY TO CRITICALLY INTERPRET COMPLEX DATA AND INFORMATION AND COMPLEMENT THEIR KNOWLEDGE, IN ORDER TO CARRY OUT ASSESSMENTS AND CRITICAL CONSIDERATIONS ABOUT THE PROBLEMATIC ISSUES OF THE NORMATIVE AND THE PRACTICE CONCERNING THE INTERNATIONAL SAFEGUARDING OF HUMAN RIGHTS; ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ACQUIRED; ABILITY TO DEVELOP, DEEPEN AND IMPROVE, IN A CRITICAL AND AUTONOMOUS WAY, THE ACQUIRED SKILLS. THE FINAL EXAMINATION CONSISTS OF AN ORAL EXAMINATION. THE QUALIFICATION (IDONEITÀ) WILL BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATING AN ADEQUATE KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONTENTS OBJECT OF THE COURSE AND AN APPROPRIATE ABILITY TO ANALYZE THE LEGAL PROBLEMS CONCERNING THE COURSE ITSELF.
