MONICA VIVIANO Curriculum
Training
Monica Viviano graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology in 2009 at the University of Salerno.
She continued her training at the same structure obtaining, in 2013, the PhD in Science and Technologies for the Chemical, Pharmaceutical and Food Industry, defending a thesis entitled "Design, synthesis and evaluation of the biological activity of new non-nucleosidic inhibitors of DNA methyltransferases (DNMTs) ".
Academic Positions and Research Experience
In 2010 Monica Viviano spent a period as a visiting scientist at the laboratories of prof. Oliver Kappe (Karl Franz University, Graz, Austria), to deepen her knowledge in the application of innovative synthetic strategies, using microwaves and flow chemistry.
From 2013 to 2021 she was the holder of several research grants at the Department of Pharmacy (University of Salerno) dealing with the design, synthesis and evaluation of the biological activity of small-molecule modulators of epigenetic targets.
Since October 2024 she is Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacy, University of Salerno.
Research activity
Design, synthesis and evaluation of the biological activity of "epi-drugs" for various epigenetic enzymes (with particular reference to protein methyltransferases and acetyltransferases) and for protein epigenetic reader domains (mainly bromodomains and Tudor domains).
Design, synthesis and study of the biological activity of drugs active on the nervous system (with particular reference to the modulators of the Translocator 18 kDa Protein (TSPO)).
Development of innovative strategies for the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds, both through traditional batch syntheses and using the most innovative and advanced techniques (microwaves, flow synthesis).
Teaching activity
From ay 2021/2022 she is the holder of the Laboratory Course of qualitative-quantitative chemical analysis of herbal products of the Course of Herbal Techniques.
