YEAR OF COURSE 5
YEAR OF DIDACTIC SYSTEM 2012
ANNUALE
CFUHOURSACTIVITY
12120LESSONS
Objectives
Learning of the methods and technical knowledge for the restoration project of monumental heritage, through the history of restoration techniques and theories and the correct setting of the project aims; knowledge of the main problems of monumental buildings, considered together in their constructive, functional and morphological elements.
Expected learning outcomes:
Knowledge and ability to understand
Knowledge of the theoretical and cultural assumptions of the restoration, of the national and international regulatory framework on the protection of cultural heritage; ability to understand the historical-technological characteristics of buildings and knowledge of methods for the analysis of the state of conservation and the design of the consolidation and restoration interventions.
Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
- Ability to analyze the monumental heritage and elaborate a restoration project, by providing the appropriate interventions in order to preserve the assets over time.
- Ability to independently learn innovations in the field of restoration.
Autonomy of judgment
The student will be able to identify the most appropriate methods for the analysis of the existing and for the restoration project, adopting the most appropriate critical choices regarding the integration of the gaps and the removal of additions.
Communication skills
The student will be able to work in team in order to elaborate a restoration project of a monumental organism and to explain orally the themes dealt with in the course. Ability to communicate the analyzes carried out and the design solutions identified through the most appropriate graphic tools.
Prerequisites
Basic knowledge about survey methods and graphic representation of building structures and traditional and modern construction materials and also about systems considered in their historical evolution and in relation to their static behaviour.
Contents
-CLARIFICATION OF TERMS

-BUILDING CONSOLIDATION: TYPES OF INTERVENTION, PROVISIONAL AND DEFINITIVE CONSOLIDATION WORKS ON HISTORICAL CONSTRUCTIONS
-THE RESTORATION PROJECT: THE CHOICE OF APPROPRIATE METHODS AND TECHNIQUES IN THE ELABORATION OF A RESTORATION PROJECT OF A MONUMENTAL BUILDING.
Teaching Methods
THE TEACHING INCLUDES THEORETICAL LESSONS AND EXERCISES IN THE CLASSROOM. THE THEORETICAL LESSONS LEAD TO A CRITICAL READING OF THE PROBLEMS AND METHODOLOGIES RELATED TO THE RESTORATION OF THE HISTORICAL HERITAGE.
CLASSROOM EXERCISES ARE ASSIGNED TO THE STUDENTS, DIVIDED BY WORK GROUPS, A THEME TO BE DEVELOPED, ALSO THROUGH INSPECTIONS, FOR THE RESTORATION PROJECT ORGANISM. DURING THE GUIDED PROJECT EXPERIENCE, THE STUDENTS ORGANIZED IN THE DESIGN TEAM WILL DEAL WITH ISSUES RELATED TO THE ANALYSIS OF THE DEGRADATION OF THE HISTORICAL BUILDING AND THE CONSERVATION OF THE CONSTRUCTION ELEMENTS THROUGH AN ADEQUATE PLANNING OF THE INTERVENTIONS. INSPECTION VISITS WILL ALLOW CRITICAL EXAMINATION OF RESTORATION INTERVENTIONS OF EMBLEMATIC MONUMENTAL BUILDINGS.
ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM, THE STUDENT MUST HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 75% OF THE TEACHING HOURS. THE MODE OF VERIFICATION OF PRESENCE IS GENERALLY OF AN ELECTRONIC TYPE OR MADE KNOWN BY THE TEACHER AT THE BEGINNING OF THE LESSONS.

Verification of learning
THE EXAM IS TO ASSESS THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO LEARN THE BASIC CONTENTS OF THE COURSE. THE VOTE, EXPRESSED IN THIRTIETHS WITH POSSIBLE PRAISE, WILL DEPEND ON THE MATURITY ACQUIRED IN THE KNOWLEDGE AND EXPOSURE. IT WILL BE ASSESSED THROUGH AN ORAL INTERVIEW AIMED AT ASCERTAINING THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ACHIEVED BY THE STUDENT ON THE TEACHING CONTENT, AS WELL AS VERIFYING THE ABILITY TO EXHIBIT, USING THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY AND THE ABILITY TO AUTONOMOUSLY ORGANIZE THE EXHIBITION.
THE INTERVIEW CONSISTS OF TWO PARTS: A) AND B)
PART A) PROPOSES THEORETICAL QUESTIONS ON ALL THE TOPICS OF THE COURSE AND ON THE RECOMMENDED BIBLIOGRAPHIC REFERENCES, AS WELL AS ON VISITS, INSPECTIONS AND ANY SEMINARS CARRIED OUT.
PART B) PROPOSES THE DISCUSSION OF THE DRAWINGS OF THE EXERCISE OF THE YEAR, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO HISTORICAL, ARCHITECTURAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL ANALYSIS AND DESIGN CHOICES.
FOR THE PURPOSES OF THE PRAISE WE WILL TAKE INTO ACCOUNT:
- THE QUALITY OF THE EXHIBITION, IN TERMS OF USING APPROPRIATE SCIENTIFIC LANGUAGE
- THE QUALITY OF THE DRAWINGS OF THE DESIGN EXERCISES
- THE ABILITY OF CROSS-CORRELATION BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT TOPICS OF THE COURSE
- OF THE AUTONOMY OF PROVEN JUDGMENT.
