Objectives
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE OF THE NORMAL FUNCTIONING OF ORGANS AND APPARATUSES OF THE HUMAN BODY, AS A PREREQUISITE TO BE ABLE TO APPROACH THE STUDY OF THE PATHOGENESIS, SYMPTOMS AND THERAPIES IN MEDICINE.

KNOWLEDGE:
- SCIENTIFIC METHODS IN HUMAN PHYSIOLOGY;
- MECHANISMS FOR NERVOUS, CARDIOVASCULAR, RENAL, RESPIRATORY AND DIGESTIVE FUNCTIONS;
- MECHANISMS FOR VEGETATIVE REGULATIONS AND ENDOCRINOLOGY;
- MECHANISMS FOR SENSITIVE AND MOTOR FUNCTIONS OF STOMATOGNATHIC APPARATUS;
- FUNDAMENTS OF PHYSIO-PATHOLOGY OF THE STOMATOGNATHIC APPARATUS;
- NORMAL VALUES OF PHYSIOLOGICAL VARIABLES OF INTEREST FOR MEDICINE, SURGERY AND DENTISTRY;

ABILITIES:
- TO BE ABLE TO DESCRIBE THE FUNCTIONING OF ORGANS AND APPARATUSES OF THE HUMAN BODY IN A CLEAR AND PRECISE WAY, SUCH THAT A GENERIC LISTENER (THE PATIENT) CAN UNDERSTAND;
- TO BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE ABNORMAL VALUES OF PHYSIOLOGICAL VARIABLES;
- TO BE ABLE TO SEARCH INFORMATION AND UPGRADES FROM THE SCIENTIFIC LITERATURE AND TO RECOGNIZE THE VALUE AND THE LIMITS OF THE AVAILABLE SCIENTIFIC DATA.
Prerequisites
APPLIED BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY

Teaching Methods
THE COURS CONSISTS OF LECTURES (92 H FOR MEDICINE, 128 H FOR DENTISTRY) AND PRACTICAL EXERCISES (40 H). LECTURES WILL PROVIDE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGEOF ALL THE ARGUMENTS FROM THE PROGRAM. THE EXERCISES WILL GIVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO APPLY THEORY TO SIMULATED REAL SITUATIONS. THE COURSE WILL ALSO COMPRISE PERSONAL AND GROUP WORKSHOPS TO VERIFY THE CORRECT ACQUISITION OF THE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM. THE WORKSHOP WILL BE DISCUSSED WITH THE CLASS DURING 24 H OF THE COURSE AND ALSO INDIVIDUALLY WITH THE PROFESSOR DURING THE OFFICE HOURS.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM WILL CONSIST OF AN ORAL TEST LASTING ABOUT 30 MIN. THE WILL VERIFY THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE FUNCTIONING MECHANISMS OF ALL THE ORGANS AND SYSTEMS OF THE HUMAN BODY IN PHYSIOLOGICAL CONDITIONS.
THE SCORE OF THE ORAL EXAM DEPENDS ON THE DEGREE OF KNOWLEDGE OF THE ARGUMENTS OF THE PROGRAM AND THE STUDENT'S ABILITY TO EFFECTIVELY PRESENT THE CONTENTS AND CRITICALLY DISCUSS THE TOPICS. THE SCORE OF THE ORAL EXAM IS AIMED AT EVALUATING THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE STUDENT. THE MINIMUM SCORE IN THE ORAL EXAM IS GAINED BY KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS OF ALL THE TOPICS OF THE PROGRAM. THE MAXIMUM SCORE IS ACHIEVED WHEN THE STUDENT DEMONSTRATES THAT HE CAN CORRECTLY ILLUSTRATE AND DISCUSS MORE THAN 95% OF ALL TOPICS AND THEMES OF THE PROGRAM. EXCELLENCE REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO CORRECTLY ILLUSTRATE AND DISCUSS 100% OF ALL THE TOPICS AND THEMES OF THE PROGRAM.
