Francesco ASCIONE Curriculum
Francesco Ascione is Associate Professor of Structural Mechanics at the University of Salerno. He obtained a bachelor degree and a master degree, both with honors, in Civil Engineering at the University of Salerno; a PhD in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Rome "Tor Vergata". He received the italian habilitation for Associate Professor two times (in 2015 and 2018). He is author of one hundred scientific papers, published in international and national journals, in proceedings of national and international conferences, monographs and books. His research activities are: the multiscale modeling of the mechanical response of materials and structures; the numerical and experimental analysis of the mechanical behavior of materials and innovative structures in fiber-reinforced composite material; design problems and verification of such structures; the pre-critical and critical behavior of thin walled beams; the mechanical behavior of concrete structures reinforced with composite materials and particularly some aspects related to the viscosity; the analysis of masonry structures reinforced with innovative materials; the numerical-experimental analysis of structural joints between FRP adherernts, with particular regard to the adhesive connections; durability of materials with particular regards to hygrothermal durability of epoxy resins and freezing and thawing durability of High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (HPFRC).prof. Francesco Ascione is a member of the operating units and/or principal investigator of research projects funded by the Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR), by the National Research Council (CNR), the Network of Seismic Engineering Laboratories and the Department of Civil Protection (ReLUIS/DPC), with the University funds for basic research (FARB). He is a member of prestigious academies, associations, scientific committees and national and international research centers, such as the Laboratoire Lagrange, the International Community for Composites Engineering (ICCE), the International Institute for FRP in Construction, the European Mechanics Society (EUROMECH), the Italian Association of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (AIMETA), the Italian Association for Stress Analysis (AIAS) and the College of Technical Steel (CTA) and the International Association of Advanced Materials (IAMM).
Since 2007 prof. Ascione is a member of the National Research Council (CNR) study group devoted to the drafting of the technical document on the use of civil structures made from pultruded profiles of fiber reinforced composite material (FRP).With reference to scientific research activities carried out in collaboration with researchers from foreign universities and industries, prof. Ascione spent several periods of research abroad: at the Laboratoire Central des Ponts et Chaussées, Paris, at the Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering, University of Miami, at the Laboratoire de Mécanique et d'Acoustique University of Marseille and at the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Hamilton in Canada. He is involved in research programs relative to the study of bonded and hybrid connection between FRP members for structural applications with Fiberline LtD (denmark), TopGlass S.p. A. (Italy) and Masherpa S.p.A. (Italy). For his scientific work won the "National Award AIAS 2009", conferred by the Italian Association for Stress Analysis (AIAS).
prof. Ascione was a member of several national and international congresses as: AIAS 2013 – 42° National Congress “the Italian Association for Stress Analysis (AIAS)”, University of Salerno, september 2013; MIMS 2016 – International workshop on Multiscale Innovative Materials and Structures, Cetara (SA), october 2016; BSC 2018 – Baltic Conference Series, Stockholm (Sweden), May 2018; MIMS 2019 – International workshop on Multiscale Innovative Materials and Structures, Cetara (SA), february 2019; AMM2019 – Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Conference, Portland, Oregon, USA, August 2019; EM4SS’21 - Engineered Materials for Sustainable Structures, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (Italy), April 2021.
prof. Ascione was an invited speaker in several national and international congresses as BSC 2018 – Baltic Conference Series, (Epoxy and Resin Conference), Stockholm (Svezia); ECCM VI 2018 – European Conference on Computanional Mechanics, Glasgow (UK); ESMC 2018 – European Solid Mechanics Conference, Bologna (Italy).
In 2015 became the Guest Co-Editor of the Special Issue of the journal Technologies titled "Bolted Joints and Bonded Fibre Reinforced Polymer Constructions" while in 2016 he became the Guest Co-Editor of the Special Issue of the American Journal of Engineering and Applied Sciences titled “FRP Strucutres”. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Composites part C: Open Access. He is Associate Editor of the scientific journal Frontiers.
