Alessia BERTAMINO Curriculum
prof. Alessia Bertamino born in Naples, on the 2nd of June, 1980, she acquired the master degree in medicinal chemistry at the University of Naples “Federico II” on the 9/7/2003, with a thesis titled “Synthesis and cytotoxic activity of dihydrothien [2,3-b]nafto-4,9-dion derivatives” Tutor: prof. Maria Vittoria Diurno. Evaluation 110/110 cum laudem. She acquired the PhD in Pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Naples “Federico II” on the 19/12/2006, with a thesis titled “Synthesis and pharmacological evaluation of heterocycle derivatives with analgesic activity". Tutor: prof. Maria Vittoria Diurno. Since November 2003 until March 2007 prof. Bertamino carried out her research activity at the Department pf Pharmacy of the University of Naples “Federico II”. During this period, she gained knowledges about organic and peptidomimetic synthesis, by using innovative synthetic methodologies such as microwaves, combinatorial synthesis in order to obtain small libraries of biologically active compounds. Moreover, she learned Mono and bidimensional NMR techniques for the compounds characterization, she has also acquired knowledges about MS spectrometry and HPLC. Since March 2007, until December 2008 prof. Alessia Bertamino worked at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Salerno, where she won a fellow ship titled “Peptidomimetic compounds for the development of a multiple sclerosis diagnostic kit”. Since January 2009 until June 2011, prof. Bertamino continued her research at the Department pf Pharmacy of the University of Naples “Federico II”. In 2011 she won a Research position in Medicinal Chemistry (SSD CHIM08) at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Salerno, since 2020 she covered the Associate Professor role, while since November 2024 she became Full Professor at the same Department. The prof. Bertamino research activity in the recent years was developed at the Department of Pharmacy of the University of Salerno and was focused on the design, synthesis and biological evaluation of pharmacologically active compounds. The main goal is the development of small library of compounds, obtained by using different synthetic methodologies: starting from in batch synthesis, to microwaves synthesis until flow chemistry optimization. Concerning the synthetic pathways, new synthetic procedures has been studied, as well as new chemical entities characterization. Particularly, the scientific activity of prof. Bertamino may be divided into 5 principal areas:
- Design and synthesis of new neuromodulators
- Design and synthesis of new antitumor compounds
- Mechanism reaction studies
- Design and synthesis of new anti-inflammatory compounds
- Design and synthesis of new antiviral compounds
- Design and synthesis of new channel modulators
So far, she published 82 articles and was relator at numerous international conferences.
Shi is also a member of the Parithetic Commission and of the technical-scientific committee of the Ateneo Library, moreover she covers the role of PhD vice-coordinator.
