Objectives
THE STUDENT AT THE END OF THE COURSE MUST SHOW:
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY:
LABORATORY EQUIPMENT AND THEIR USE; METHODS OF INTERPRETATION, ANALYSIS AND DATA PRESENTATION; TYPES OF QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS AND PRINCIPLES ON WHICH THEY ARE BASED; MAIN METHODS OF ANALYSIS WITH PARTICULAR REGARD TO THOSE USED IN QC IN THE PHARMACEUTICAL, COSMETIC AND FOOD INDUSTRY; MAIN INSTRUMENTS AND TECHNIQUES USED IN MODERN QUANTITATIVE ANALYTICS.
APPLIcation of KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING ABILITY:
EXPERIENCE IN THE MAIN LABORATORY OPERATIONS (FILTRATION, TITRATION, ETC); CAPACITY TO COLLECT, INTERPRET, ANALYZE AND PRESENT THE EXPERIMENTAL DATA; ABILITY TO CHOOSE AND APPLY THE MOST CORRECT METHOD FOR THE RESOLUTION OF REAL ANALYTICAL PROBLEMS.
Prerequisites
TO KNOW THE BASICS OF GENERAL AND INORGANIC CHEMISTRY, MATH, PHYSICS, AND ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY.IN ADDITION, THE ACQUISITION OF THE OBJECTIVES OF ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY AND A BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND OF COMPUTING ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

THE PROGRAM IS ORGANIZED FOR INTERMEDIATE EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: INTRODUCTION TO THE QUANTITATIVE ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY; LAB OPERATIONS; THEORY OF ERRORS; GRAVIMETRIC ANALYSIS; VOLUMETRIC ANALYSIS; ARGENTOMETRIC; CHELOMETRIC; TITRATIONS WITH ELECTRONIC TRANSFER; PERMANGANOMETRY AND CERIMETRY; IODIMETRY, IODOMETRY AND BROMOMETRY; INSTRUMENTAL METHODS AND APPLICATIONS IN QUANTITATIVE ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY AND IN QUALITY CERTIFICATION.
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE CONSISTS IN 80 HOURS (10 CFU) DIVIDED INTO 60 HOURS OF CLASS AND 20 HOURS OF LAB EXPERIENCES (8 EXPERIENCES, 2.5 HOURS EACH), WITH MANDATORY ATTENDANCE. EVERY TWO WEEKS WILL BE CARRIED OUT CLASS EXERCISES CONCERNING THE TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THE PREVIOUS LESSONS.
TO ACCESS THE EXAM A MINIMUM OF THE 80% OF LABORATORY ATTENDANCE IS REQUIRED FOR STUDENTS, WHILE THE CLASS ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY.
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE COURSE OBJECTIVES IS CERTIFIED BY THREE FOLLOWING TESTS. THE FIRST ONE CONSISTS IN A LABORATORY TEST CONCERNING THE TITRATION OF A SPECIFIC CHEMICAL COMPOUND.
THE SECOND ONE IS A WRITING TEST COMPOSED BY 5 DIFFERENT ANALYTICAL PROBLEMS AND THE CORRECT RESOLUTION OF AT LEAST THREE PROBLEMS IS REQUIRED. THE LAST TEST IS A 20 MINUTES ORAL TOLK AIMED TO ENSURE THE STUDENT’S KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL TOPICS. THE ORAL TEST IS ALSO AIMED TO VERIFY THE COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SKILLS.
