Objectives
THE COURSE TAKES PLACE IN THE FIRST SEMESTER OF THE SECOND YEAR. IT IS DIVIDED INTO 4 MODULES FOR A TOTAL OF 72 HOURS OF LESSONS: PHARMACOLOGY, INTERNAL MEDICINE, ONCOLOGY AND ANATOMICAL PATHOLOGY

THE COURSE AIMS TO FACILITATE THE ACQUISITION OF FUNDAMENTAL THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE OF PHARMACOLOGY, INTERNAL MEDICINE, ONCOLOGY AND PATHOLOGICAL ANATOMY.
THE STUDENT WILL HAVE TO ACQUIRE ELEMENTS ON THE FUNCTION AND CHOICE OF DRUGS IN CHILDREN AND ADULTS, KNOWLEDGE OF THE CLINICAL PRESENTATIONS AND COMPLICATIONS OF THE MAIN DISEASES AND ELEMENTS ON THE ANATOMIC-PATHOLOGICAL FINDINGS

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
- KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN PATHOLOGIES RELATED TO THE INTERNAL MEDICINE FIELD
- PRINCIPLES OF GENERAL AND SPECIAL PHARMACOLOGY
- KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN PATHOLOGIES RELATED TO THE ONCOLOGY FIELD
- KNOWLEDGE OF THE MAIN ANATOMIC-PATHOLOGICAL FINDINGS AND TECHNIQUES OF PREPARATION AND CONSERVATION OF THE SAMPLES

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
-DESCRIBE THE PATHOPHYSIOLOGICAL PROCESSES AS WELL AS THE CLINICAL, DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC ELEMENTS IN MOST PREVALENT CONDITIONS IN INTERNAL MEDICINE AND ONCOLOGY
-DESCRIBE THE DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC PATH OF MEDICAL AND ONCOLOGICAL PATIENTS
-DESCRIBE THE MAJOR SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS ASSOCIATED TO THE PRESENCE OF MEDICAL AND ONCOLOGICAL CONDITIONS AND THEIR TREATMENT
-DESCRIBE THE MAIN PROBLEMS IN INTERNAL MEDICINE AND ONCOLOGY AND APPROPRIATE INTERVENTIONS BASED ON SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE AND BASIC PATHOLOGICAL EVIDENCE
-DESCRIBE SUPPORTIVE CARE STRATEGIES IN DIFFERENT STAGES OF MEDICAL AND ONCOLOGICAL PATIENTS
-UNDERSTAND ESSENTIAL CONCEPTS TO FORMULATE AND ASSESS MEDICAL HISTORY TO DEVELOP DIAGNOSTIC HYPOTHESES IN INTERNAL MEDICINE AND ONCOLOGY
-DESCRIBE THE PRINCIPAL CLASSES OF DRUGS USED IN INTERNAL MEDICINE AND ONCOLOGY, THEIR THERAPEUTIC EFFECTIVENESS AND SIDE EFFECTS
-APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE TO EVALUATE POTENTIAL PHARMACOLOGICAL THERAPIES IN INTERNAL MEDICINE AND ONCOLOGY, AND THEIR ROUTES AND MODALITIES OF ADMINISTRATION
Prerequisites
THE EXAM OF GENERAL PATHOLOGY AND GENETICS IS PREPARATORY TO THE FUNDAMENTALS OF PHARMACOLOGY AND GENERAL MEDICINE

Teaching Methods
TEACHING CONSISTS OF 24 HOURS OF FRONTAL LESSONS IN PHARMACOLOGY, 24 HOURS IN INTERNAL MEDICINE, 12 HOURS IN ONCOLOGY, AND 12 HOURS IN ANATOMICAL PATHOLOGY. ATTENDANCE TO THE LESSONS IS MANDATORY. STUDENTS MUST ATTEND AT LEAST 75% OF PLANNED HOURS OF TEACHING IN ORDER TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM. VERIFICATION OF STUDENT ATTENDANCE IS GENERALLY DONE BY THE TEACHER AT BEGINNING OF THE LESSON.
Verification of learning
THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE TEACHING OBJECTIVES IS VERIFIED BY PASSING THE FINAL EXAM. THE FINAL EXAM CONSISTS OF AN ORAL TEST. THE ORAL TEST INCLUDES AN INTERVIEW WITH QUESTIONS AND DISCUSSION FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES. IT IS IMPORTANT TO EVALUATE THE LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE AND THE ABILITY OF ACHIEVED UNDERSTANDING OF THE STUDENTS ON THE TOPICS DISCUSSED DURING THE TEACHING AS WELL AS TO VERIFY THE ABILITY TO EXPRESS, UTILIZING THE APPROPRIATE TERMINOLOGY, AND TO ORGANIZE THE INTERVIEW ON THE THEORETICAL TOPICS. EACH EXAM IS EVALUATED IN A THIRTIETH SCORE SCALE AND IS PASSED WITH A MINIMUM SCORE OF 18/30.
