Objectives
THE AIM OF THE COURSE IS TO PROVIDE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT GENERAL METHODS OF ANALYSIS FOR THE QUANTIFICATION OF DRUGS, APPLYING DIFFERENT ANALYTICAL METHODOLOGIES.
THE STUDENT APPLYING THE ACQUIRED SKILLS WILL BE ABLE TO CHOOSE AND APPLY THE MOST APPROPRIATE METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE QUANTITY OF DRUGS IN DIFFERENT SAMPLES.

Prerequisites
FOR THIS COURSE, IT IS NECESSARY THE ACQUISITION OF THE OBJECTIVES OF: GENERAL AND INORGANIC CHEMISTRY, PHYSICS, MATHEMATICS.

MOREOVER, THE ACQUISITION OF BASIC PRINCIPLES OF ANALYTICAL AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

SAFETY IN LABORATORIES. REGULATIONS. THE ITALIAN OFFICIAL PHARMACOPOEIA (F.U.). THE EUROPEAN PHARMACOPOEIA (E.P.). GLASSWARE AND ITS USE. ELECTRONIC SCALES, CONCENTRATION UNITS. (4 HOURS). SCALE OF WORK. NORMALITY, EQUIVALENT, CALCULATIONS IN VOLUMETRIC ANALYSIS (6 HOURS).
ANALYSIS OF THE PH OF STRONG AND WEAK ACIDS AND BASES. CALCULATION OF PH OF POLYPROTIC ACIDS AND THEIR SALTS. TITRATION CURVES OF ACIDS AND BASES. THEORY OF INDICATORS. MAIN ACID-BASE INDICATORS AND THEIR USE. PRIMARY STANDARDS, THEIR CHARACTERISTICS AND THEIR USE. STANDARD SOLUTIONS OF ACIDS AND BASES USED IN VOLUMETRIC ANALYSIS. EXAMPLES OF TITRATIONS ACCORDING TO E.P. (14 HOURS)
SOLUBILITY. SOLUBILITY PRODUCT. PRECIPITATION AND REDISSOLUTION OF THE PRECIPITATES. COLLOIDAL PRECIPITATES (4 HOURS).
TITRATION CURVES OF PRECIPITATION. DETERMINATION OF HALIDES ACCORDING TO MOHR, VOLHARD, FAJANS AND LIEBIG-DENIGES. PREPARATION OF STANDARD SOLUTIONS USED IN PRECIPITATION ANALYSIS. EXAMPLES OF DETERMINATIONS OF PRECIPITATION (6 HOURS).
TITRATIONS IN NONAQUEOUS SOLVENTS: THEORY AND APPLICATIONS (2 HOURS).
COMPLEXOMETRIC TITRATION. METALLOCROMIC INDICATORS. COMPLEX-FORMATION AND INSTABILITY CONSTANTS. EXAMPLES OF COMPLEXOMETRIC TITRATIONS ACCORDING TO E.P. (6 HOURS)
DEFINITION AND USE OF THE STANDARD REDUCTION POTENTIAL. REDOX INDICATORS AND SPECIFIC INDICATORS (2 HOURS).
PERMANGANOMETRY. IODIMETRY. IODOMETRY. CERIMETRY. BROMATOMETRY (12 HOURS).
COMPLEXATION REACTIONS.SPECTROPHOTOMETRY UV / VIS, THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS.LAMBERT-BEER EQUATION (4 HOURS).
Teaching Methods
THE COURSE IS MADE OF 80 HOURS OF LESSONS(10 CFU), 60 HOURS OF FRONTAL LESSONS AND 20 HOURS OF LAB EXPERIENCES (8 EXPERIENCES, 2.5 HOURS EACH).THE ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. EVERY TWO WEEKS, DURING FRONTAL LESSONS, EXERCISES CONCERNING THE TOPICS DISCUSSED WILL BE PERFORMED.
THE LESSONS ARE MANDATORY, THE FREQUENCY OF AT LEAST 75% OF LABORATORY LESSONS IS REQUIRED FOR THE ACCESS TO THE EXAM.
Verification of learning
THE EXAM CONSINSTS IN TWO DIFFERENT TESTS. THE ACHIEVEMENT OF EACH TEST IS MANDATORY FOR THE NEXT ONE. THE FIRST IS A WRITTEN TEST COMPOSED BY 5 DIFFERENT ANALYTICAL PROBLEMS TO BE SOLVED. THE SECOND TEST IS AN ORAL EXAMINATION OF ABOUT 20 MINUTES WIITH THE AIM TO VERIFY THE THEORETICAL AND METHODOLOGICAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE STUDENT.
