Anna MARABOTTI Curriculum
prof. Anna Marabotti graduated in 1996 in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies at the University of Parma (final grade 110/110 with honors), and obtained a PhD in Biochemical Sciences in 2001 at the University of Turin. She has worked as a postdoctoral contractor in various Italian universities (Verona, Padua, Second University of Naples) and in public research institutions (CNR), as well as in private research institutes (IRCCS "E. Medea"). In addition, she worked in one of the largest pharmaceutical industries in the world, dealing with regulatory aspects. In October 2012 she became a permanent staff member of the Department of Chemistry and Biology "A. Zambelli" of the University of Salerno in Fisciano, and since January 2020 she is Associate Professor at the same institution.
Her current main research interests concern studies of structure-dynamics-function relationships of proteins from various species, of prevalent interest in the biomedical field (with particular attention to proteins involved in rare pathologies), and characterization of their interactions with ligands, using a combination of biocomputational techniques, possibly associated with experimental approaches. She has been and still is responsible for several national and international research projects, as well as holder of international cooperation agreements. She has co-authored more than 100 in extenso publications in journals indexed by main online databases (PubMed, JCR, Google Scholar, Scopus ...) and articles in books with ISBNs, and more than 250 communications at conferences.
prof. Marabotti has been and is the holder of teaching assignments in the scientific-disciplinary sector BIOS-07 (Biochemistry), for students in the three teaching areas pertaining to the DCB, for both Bachelor's and Master's degree courses, and for the PhD programme in Chemical, Biological and Environmental Sciences, of which she was a member of the Teaching Board from 2019 to 2023. Currently, prof. Marabotti is a member of the Teaching Board of the inter-university PhD program in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, headquartered at "La Sapienza" University of Rome.
Since 2013, prof. Marabotti has held the position of Head of Incoming Orientation for the Biology Teaching Area, and is also a member of the Quality Assurance Group of the Biology Teaching Council. She is also the contact person for the Salerno branch of the National Project "Piano Lauree Scientifiche" for the three-year period 2023-2025. Since October 2023, she has been the DCB's Delegate for Incoming Orientation, in charge of the Departmental Commission for Incoming Orientation, PCTO, Access Tests, Assessment of Italian Language Knowledge for Foreign Students, PLS, Disability.
prof. Marabotti has taught in numerous universities and other public institutions, and she has been a member of scientific and/or organizing committees for various conferences, courses, workshops and seminars (including the BBCC meetings: https://www.bbcc-meetings.it/). She is a member of several national and international scientific societies, in particular she is a member of the Bioinformatics Italian Society, BITS (https://bioinformatics.it/), and she is a member and a Deputy Coordinator of the Education Group of the Italian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, SIB (http://www.biochimica.it/). Moreover, prof. Marabotti is involved in the activities of the European infrastructure for the support of life sciences ELIXIR (https://elixir-europe.org/), being Local Technical Coordinator for the local node of the University of Salerno (https://elixir-italy.org/struttura/persone/), and Deputy Coordinator of the Italian Training Team (https://elixir-iib-training.github.io/site/). She is a member of editorial committees of various biomedical journals (Current Chemical Biology, Scientific Reports, Frontiers, Molecules) and reviewer for numerous scientific journals and Italian and international research projects, including projects in the context of ISCRA (Italian SuperComputing Resource Allocation) of CINECA.
In addition to her institutional teaching and research activities, prof. Marabotti has been and still is involved in third mission and science dissemination, regularly participating in initiatives such as La Pinta di Scienza (https://www.pintofscience.it/) and FuturoRemoto (https://www.futuroremoto.eu/), and as of this year she has enthusiastically joined the Science Friendly Pens initiative (https://sites.google.com/view/penne-amiche-della-scienza/home). She is also a founding member of the Association for the Promotion of Education Communication of Science and the Arts (APECSA) ETS-APS (https://www.apecsa.it/), with which she conducts science outreach activities.
