KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING THIS TEACHING AIMS TO INTRODUCE THE STUDENT TO THE PROBLEM OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE COMPLEX MOLECULAR INTERACTIONS UNDERLYING THE FUNCTIONING OF LIVING ORGANISMS, AND TO THE WAY IN WHICH IT IS POSSIBLE TO STUDY THESE INTERACTIONS WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF APPROACHES. THE STUDENT WILL THEREFORE UNDERSTAND THAT EVEN THE SIMPLEST ORGANISMS SUCH AS BACTERIA OR CELLS DEPEND, FOR THEIR SURVIVAL, ON THE INTERCHANGE AND RECIPROCAL REGULATION OF THE VARIOUS MOLECULAR ENTITIES, AND WILL KNOW THE TECHNIQUES DEVELOPED FOR THEIR STUDY. ABILITY TO APPLY KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING AT THE END OF THIS TEACHING, THE STUDENT WILL ACQUIRE BASIC KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE DIFFERENT WAYS IN WHICH MACROMOLECULES (IN PARTICULAR, PROTEINS) INTERACT WITH EACH OTHER, AND THE TECHNIQUES, BOTH "WET" AND "IN SILICO", DEVELOPED FOR THEIR STUDY, UNDERSTANDING THEIR LIMITATIONS AND THEREFORE WHICH TECHNIQUES ARE MOST APPROPRIATE FOR THE STUDY OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF PHENOMENA OF INTEREST. |
