SPRING SEMESTER
CFUHOURSACTIVITY
432LESSONS
216EXERCISES
Objectives
The module will provide the student with the basic tools to understand the structural and operative characteristics of robots in medical applications and their programming.

Knowledge and understanding
Characteristics of robots used in medical and robotics applications, including robotic surgery and the use of robots for assistive and social technologies. Safety issues of robotic systems in the medical field. Software frameworks and environments for the collection of data provided by the robot and for the programming of robots.

Applying knowledge and understanding
Programming robotic systems in the medical field for physical and social assistance and creating applications capable of reading the data provided by the robot and analyzing them for diagnostic and safety purposes.
Prerequisites
For the successful achievement of the course goals, knowledge on control and computer technologies is required.
Contents
Robotic systems (lecture / practice / laboratory hours 8/8/4)
Characteristics of a robotic system. Direct and inverse kinematics. Differential kinematics. Static. Performance indices.

Medical robotic systems (hours of lecture / practice / laboratory 18/6/4)
Characteristics of robots for digital health applications - Applications of robotic technologies in the medical field - Haptic interfaces and teleoperations - Robotic prostheses - In-depth analysis of the Davinci robot - Interfacing robots with data collection and management systems

Total lecture / practice / laboratory hours 26/14/8
Teaching Methods
Lectures supported by problem-solving tutorials. Laboratory activities performed on simulated and physical robots.
