Alfredo AMBROSONE Curriculum

Alfredo Ambrosone is Associate Professor at the department of Pharmacy, University of Salerno. He completed his PhD in Biotechnology at the University of Naples “Federico II” in 2008. During the PhD programme, he investigated on abiotic stress tolerance in plants through genomics and genetic engineering approaches collaborating with the Institute of Plant Genetics (CNR-IGV, Portici) and with the Department of Soil, Plants and Environmental Science of University of Naples “Federico II”. In 2010 he moved to the Nanobiomolecular group at the Institute of Cybernetics (CNR-ICIB). Here, he investigated the biological response to nanoparticle insults and participate to multidisciplinary projects aimed to develop smart nanocarriers for gene silencing, drug delivery and remote control of signalling pathways. In 2015, he was awarded a Marie Sklodowska Curie Individual Fellowship in the European program for Excellent Science –HORIZON 2020. Additionally, he has been visiting scientist at University of Innsbruck (Austria), Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich (Germany), Phillips University of Marburg (Germany) and Istituto de Nanociencia de Aragon (Spain).

At the present, his research interests are focused on genetic and molecular aspects controlling plant growth and biosynthesis of secondary metabolites in response to environmental stimuli and stresses. Over the recent years, he investigated plant extracellular vesicles to enhance human health and plant protection.

In 2022, he was awarded the National Scientific Qualification for the position of Full Professor in Agricultural Genetics, SSD AGR/07.

Main Projects:
