Objectives
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING-
THE LABORATORY BIOLOGY AND INFORMATICS IS DESIGNED TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO VERIFY CRITICALLY THE THEORETICAL KNOWLEDGE ACQUIRED THROUGH THE COURSES ATTENDED IN THE FIRST YEAR, BY ANALYZING REAL CASES IN LABORATORY AND OPEN FIELD.

APPLYING KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
THIS MULTIDISCIPLINARY TRAINING LABORATORY IS ORGANIZED TO GIVE STUDENTS APPROPRIATE METHODOLOGIES AND TOOLS TO:
1)MONITOR, ANALYZE AND DISCUSS DATA ON THE PRINCIPAL ENVIRONMENTAL COMPONENTS AND THE PLANT GROWTH;
2)IDENTIFY AND CLASSIFY THE PRINCIPAL CROP PLANTS.

MAKING JUDGEMENTS –
THE STUDENTS WILL DEVELOP PERSONAL ABILITY TO DISCUSS AND ADDRESS APPLIED QUESTIONS AND ISSUES CONCERNING THE PRINCIPAL ENVIRONMENTAL COMPONENTS AND THE PLANT GROWTH RELEVANT FOR THE AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS

COMMUNICATION SKILLS-
THE MULTIDISCIPLINARY LABORATORY IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE TO THE STUDENTS OPPORTUNITIES TO LEARN THE MOST RECENT KNOWLEDGE AND TO DEVELOP A WIDE RANGE OF INTELLECTUAL AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND TOOLS (GRAPHICS, POWERPOINT PRESENTATION) IN APPROACHING SPECIFIC ISSUES AND ASPECTS AND SOLVING PROBLEMS RELEVANT IN AGRICULTURE.

LEARNING SKILLS-
STUDENTS WILL BE CONTINUOUSLY ASSISTED IN DEVELOPING A SELF-DIRECTED AND AUTONOMOUS APPROACH IN STUDYING SPECIFIC ASPECTS AND PROBLEMS RELEVANT FOR AGRICULTURE
Prerequisites
BASIC KNOWLEDGE IN BIOLOGY, MATHEMATICS, PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY, AND CONSOLIDATED BY ATTENDING THE COURSES OF THE FIRST YEAR.
Contents
MULTIDISCIPLINARY LABORATORY “BIOLOGY” (2 ECT= 24 ORE)
-BOTANICAL IDENTIFICATION OF THE MAIN CROP PLANTS AND HERBARIUM PREPARATION;
-MONITORING PLANT GROWTH AND PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONS OF SHOOTS AND ROOTS;
-TRANSPIRATION, STOMATA CONTROL AND WATER TRANSPORT IN PLANTS

MULTIDISCIPLINARY LABORATORY “INFORMATICS” (1 CFU= 12 ORE)
-ACQUISITION OF AGRO-METEOROLOGICAL AND PLANT GROWTH DATA, BY USING APPROPRIATE MONITORING EQUIPMENT (WEATHER STATION, MICRO-SENSORS, OTHER EQUIPMENT);
-BASIC STATISTICAL ANALYSIS AND PREPARATION OF GRAPHICS OF THE ACQUIRED DATA BY EXCEL.
Teaching Methods
-SEMINARS OF THE METHODOLOGIES AND MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF THE MONITORING EQUIPMENT;
-PRACTICAL WORK FOR BOTANICAL IDENTIFICATION AND DATA MONITORING IN LABORATORY AND OPEN FIELD INDIVIDUALLY OR IN SMALL GROUPS;
-USE OF SOFTWARES FOR THE ANALYSIS OF THE COLLECTED DATA.
Verification of learning
-PREPARATION OF A REPORT AND A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION ON THE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN THE LABORATORY OR IN OPEN FIELD;
- PESENTATION AND DISCUSSION OF THE HERBARIUM
Texts
SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES AND PROTOCOLS DISTRIBUTED TO THE STUDENTS DURING THE ACTIVITIES CARRIED IN THE LABORATORY AND OPEN FIELD.
