Current Position Gianluca Frasca Caccia is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Salerno, since Novembrer 2022. He has a national habilitation as Associate Professor in Numerical Analysis, since December 2023.
Previous Positions He received his Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Florence, Italy, in March 2015. His thesis in numerical analysis was supervised by prof. Luigi Brugnano. Subsequently he had a research position in the same department.
From Sep. 2015 to Apr. 2021 he held a position as Research Associate at the University of Kent, Canterbury, U.K., supervised by prof. Peter E. Hydon.
From May 2021 to Oct. 2022 he was a postdoctoral researcher in numerical analysis at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Salerno, supervised by prof. Dajana Conte.
Research Interests His research deals with the efficient numerical solution of ordinary and partial differential equations, with a focus on the development of geometric integrators.
Research Activities Gianluca Frasca Caccia has authored 28 scientific publications: 18 journal articles and 10 conference proceedings (see Orcid). He has been a speaker in more than 20 international/national conferences.
He is associate editor of 2 international journals and referee for 17 international journals of applied mathematics.
Conference Organization He is a member of the local organizing committee of the international conference “SDIDE 2025 - 7th Workshop on Stability and Discretization Issues in Differential Equations” to be held at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Salerno in June 2025.
Funded Visits (selected) From July to December 2019 he has been an invited participant of the six-month programme “Geometry, compatibility and structure preservation in computational differential equations” at the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Science at the University of Cambridge, U.K.
He visited prof. Linyu Peng at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Keio University, Kawasaki, Japan, from March 3 to 27, 2024. This visit was financially supported by a 1,000,000¥ award from the "Top Global University Project" of the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. On this occasion, he held a 12-hour seminar cycle.
Teaching Activities He has taught several courses of Numerical Analysis and Applied Mathematics both at the University of Salerno (since 2022) and at the University of Kent (2015-2021), including courses for Ph.D. students.
Department Committees At the Department of Mathematics of the University of Salerno, he is a member of the Outreach Committee and of the Website Committee.
