ACQUISITION OF KNOWLEDGE ON MORPHOLOGY, BIOLOGY AND ECOLOGY OF THE MAIN HARMFUL AND USEFUL INSECTS IN AGRICULTURE, IDENTIFICATION OF THE MOST COMMON AND HARMFUL INSECTS, DAMAGES CAUSED BY THEM AND MONITORING SYSTEMS. THE STUDENTS WILL BE ABLE TO APPLY THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE FOR DESIGNING AND DEVELOPING THE MOST APPROPRIARE DEFENSE STRATEGIES BASED ON SAFETY PRINCIPLES FOR THE ENVIRONMENT AND CONSUMERS. THE MAIN ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE ARE: -CHARACTERISTICS OF ARTHROPODS AND THOSE DISTINCTIVE OF INSECTS AND THEIR IMPORTANCE IN THE AGRO-SYSTEMS; - MORPHOLOGICAL AND ANATOMICAL TRAITS OF INSECTS; -PRINCIPAL PHYSIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF THE INSECTS, USEFUL TO UNDERSTAND THEIR ROLE IN THE AGRO-AND FOREST-SYSTEMS, THE MECHANICS UNDERLYING THE MAIN DEFENSE STRATEGIES; -THE MAIN FACTORS REGULATING THE POPULATION DYNAMICS AND DIFFUSION OF THE INSECTS IN THE AGRO- AND FOREST SYSTEMS, FOCUSING ALSO ON THE INTRODUCTION OF EXOTIC INSECT SPECIES; -THE DAMAGES CAUSED BY INSECTS IN CROP AND TREE PLANTS, THE ROLE OF USEFUL INSECTS, WITH EMPHASIS ON PHYTOPHAGOUS INSECTS; - THE MAIN DEFENSE TOOLS AGAINST HARMFUL INSECTS, WITH EMPHASIS ON ENVIRONMENTAL COMPATIBLE PESTICIDES; - THE PRINCIPLES AT THE BASIS OF AN APPROPRIATE MANAGEMENT OF INSECTS POPULATIONS AND SUSTAINABLE PLANT PROTECTION; -THE KEY PHYTOFAGOUS INSECTS IN THE MEDITERRANEAN AGRO-SYSTEMS. THE MAIN ACQUIRED ABILITIES ARE: -TO ANALYZE THE AGRO-SYSTEMS AND IDENTIFY THE KEY INSECT PESTS; -TO IDENTIFY THE INSECT PESTS BY USING APPROPRIATE INTEGRATED EVALUATION TOOLS; -TO DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT APPROPRIATE SUSTAINABLE STRATEGIES OF INSECT CONTROL |
Prerequisites | |
---|---|
STUDENTS ARE REQUESTED TO HAVE PASSED THE EXAM OF BIOLOGY AND BOTANY TO BETTER UNDERSTAND AND APPLY THE TOPICS DEVELOPED DURING THE COURSE. |

(10 HOURS) |
Teaching Methods | |
---|---|
THE COURSE INCLUDES LECTURES (5 ETCS, 35 HOURS), WITH THE SUPPORT OF SLIDES, DEDICATED ANIMATIONS AND PRACTICING ACTIVITIES AIMED AT IDENTIFYING INSECTS AND THEIR SYMPTOMS (1 ECTS 7 HOURS). |
Verification of learning | |
---|---|
STUDENTS WILL BE EVALUATED FOR THEIR ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, COMPREHENSION AND APPLICATION OF THE CONCEPTS AND TOPICS DEVELOPED DURING THE COURSE THROUGH A WRITTEN TEST (RELATIVE TO THE GENERAL SECTION,TO BE HELD IN THE SECOND HALF OF NOVEMBER) AND AN ORAL INTERVIEW, WHICH INCLUDE ALSO A PART FOCUSED ON THE IDENTIFICATION OF SAMPLES OF THE MAIN HARMFUL INSECTS IN AGRICULTURE. EVALUATION IS EXPRESSED IN 30/30 (MINIMUM SCORE TO PASS IS 18/30). |
