Donato CASTRONUOVO Curriculum

Donato Castronuovo is currently an Associate Professor of Horticulture and Floriculture at the Department of Pharmacy (DIFARMA) of the University of Salerno where he is also a member of the Doctoral Research School in "Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences" active in an associated form between the Universities of Basilicata and Salerno.

He obtained an MSc Degree in Agricultural Sciences with honours at the University of Basilicata in 2000 and, at the same University, he completed his PhD in 2004 by discussing a thesis on technical and agronomic characterization of innovative plastics films for crop mulching and soil solarisation.

From 2004 to 2005 and from 2007 to 2010 he was a research fellow at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Basilicata, mainly dealing with innovative plastic films for soil solarization and energy saving in floriculture.

From 2017 to 2023, he was appointed as adjunct Professor of Floriculture and Protected Cultivations at the School of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Basilicata.

He has many memberships in research groups of national and international research projects relating to horticultural and floricultural topics.

During his research experience he addressed various topics, the main ones of which concern: the cultivation of aromatic and condiment species; the management of water resources, nitrogen fertilization and biostimulant products for vegetable crop cultivation; the use of soil amendments in horticultural crops systems; the use of innovative plastic materials to reduce the environmental impacts in horticultural and floriculture cultivation systems; the use of sustainable techniques for soil disinfection evaluating their long-term effects; the management of energy saving in horticultural productions.

He is a fellow of the Italian Society for Horticultural Science (SOI), of the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS), and of the Italian Society for Agronomy (SIA).

He is the author of 87 scientific manuscripts of which 55 have been referenced and indexed by Scopus and ISI.
